Unfortunately the other night I kinked one of my rear fixed copper brake pipes on my 1995 defender 90.

I can't really be arsed to make up my own and have them looking crap and not bent correctly. So I thought I would price some up from land rover. Something like £60 odd quid for one side, and 70 for the other. No chance!

So I had a browse on the net, and it appears they don't do an aftermarket option. They only do rear axle brake pipes from XA Vin number (TD5) which Is superceded that many times which confuses me. Would they still fit ? I think the superceded part number is now for ABS models which are only £8 a side.

Or would disco 1, RRC pipes fit?

I was tempted to buy a flaring kit. But the cheap ones I've read are crap. And it's pointless for how often it gets uses. Plus I couldn't bend them without kinking.

Sorry it's long winded. Cheers all

Personally, I wouldn't even attempt this. Most local independant tyre and brake specialists will fit you a new pipe in no time, probably for less than you would pay for the pipe, fittings, and flare kit.

+1 on oldfogeys suggestion. If you want to fit them yourself take the old ones along as a pattern

with a good kit it's easy as.

sure i've seen people flog them pipes on ebay or as above try local place.

if you get stuck, shout up :)

cunifer/cupro/kunifer all same thing is better than copper

Flaring kits work OK but you need to do a bit of practice and take some care over the flares. The cunifer pipe bends easily and is fairly difficult to kink, the fittings are pennies from your local motor factor, worth having some in stock for that Sunday afternoon when you (or your new best mate) b****ers a brake pipe and needs the motor for Monday morning!
