It's a disco enjin the defender unit has the turbo on top.

It's called a banjo bolt (no idea why) it sounds the same as on my 90 and should look like this.

I used thermal foil insulation and solvent free contact adhesive, its worked a treat.

Grab a large screwdriver and crawl under and poke it all over the chassis, scrape any loose rust off n poke it again you dont need to go mad just be firm. If any holes appear investigate till you get back to good , solid metal you will be able to tell how bad it is after 20 mins or so. Good...

The rear rot can be sorted by replacing the rear cross member if you get one with the extensions makes it a bit easier. The out riggers can be sorted by chopping the old off n replacing with a new1 not too expensive to do if you weld it yourself or get a mate to do it. But as hugesy says check...

Hahaha know that feeling well, when i blew my gearbox and had the interior out, i decided to check n clean the chassis in the inaccessable places, i found holes in the footwell, buggered bulkhead outriggers and a hole on the top of the chassis leg under the seat box!!!:eek::doh:

It will do cos the selectors are splash lubricated i believe. But its def for the reverse switch. It should have a copper washer on it.

Nope thats for the reverse light switch, well it is on my lt77 box.

Either way will have the result of earthing the switch, but earthing direct to the battery is a more reliable option. If you are thinking of adding a lot of ancillaries fitting a earth bar to the bulkhead and running a wire direct to the battery would be an idea.
