Right, before you start replying remember I know F*%K all about Welding !

Lidl Online

I'm hoping to start a Welding course later in the year and seen the above for sale in our local store. I sort of know what the answer is before I ask but ...........Is it any good ? Would it be any good for any jobs on the Landy ?

Dave

i havnt even opened the page to know its guna be aloud of ****, save up get on a decent welding course and then buy your self a nice little mag welder :D

Mag??? is that better than mig then?? gcoo:D

well if you can find me one person on the planet that can mig weld mild stell id love to meet him,

MIG/MAG welding is used on all thicknesses of steels, aluminium, nickel, stainless steels etc. The MAG process is suitable both for steel and unalloyed, low-alloy and high-alloy based materials. The MIG process, on the other hand, is used for welding aluminium and copper materials.

there you go everone calls there welder a mig welder when infact its more than likly a mag ;)

Ok now I'm confused... if I go to buy a welder which says it is a MIG, how do I make sure it's a MAG and not actually a MIG?

Metal inert gas (MIG) welding or metal active gas (MAG) both the same machine just different ways of saying it. If you want to weld alloys you use AC and argon on the machine and DC for steels with CO2 or such like.

ARC is ok MIG or MAG as some people want to put it is easier and usually give better neater results if trained well. An arc welder is worth buying tho for the experience of welding up bracketry and so on I know a Landy that was completly plated about 15 years ago and its still going strong that was done by a professional welder with an arc welder.

not really as to weld with alloy wire you need differnt liners in the weld torch lead etc as well as diferent set of rollers in the welding machine so its not really as simple as changing gas and welding wire :p

langers the sellers will be calling it a mig when infact 99% of the time it will be a mag welder(dont ask why) so it will be running some sort of active gas, and a mild steel wire copper coated (the wire will look like copper colour),:D

if you buy one second hand of anyone i would of thought it would be set up like that as there not many people that can afford to use alloy stainless wire in a mig mag welder, its cheper to use/buy a tig welder:D

if i was you i would buy a mig welder with argon gas with a little practise you will get good results try machine mart get best you can aford 180 amp a good choice

 COME AGAIN?

argon? and you mean mag i take it?

agon (pure) is used on stainless/alloy etc

for mild steel it would be a mix with maybe a %of argon

something like coogar

I would definatly reccomend mig too. As you have to weld on the flat with arc and find it hard to tack things and weld thin tin. A novice would pick up how to use a mig very quickly. I bought a mig from machine mart for about £200 and was well worth it. They pay for themselves by the money you save on garage bills.
