    range rover runnung bad

My nanocom licence key included the number "one". No Joy - eventually they said try L, I or lower case L. The lower case L did the trick. You'll know in advance of connecting it to the car if the next level of menu opens up without it saying "function locked".

Missed the Nanocom offer....one on ebay - 2.5 diesel

Yes, Got mine at 20% disc (having joined the forum after the deadline). They have a new website at Home Page Have just managed to get the unlock codes sorted today. I dont understand the great emphasis on security which requires registration prior to the codes being released. I also was...

    leak off pipes

Thought this was about the injector return pipes. The same airline that is used on the p38 air suspension works well. You may heat the ends a bit with boiling water before pushing on. Advantage of the nylon line is that it should last a very long time and is impervious to bio and veg.

    abs ecu change

Have you checked your actual speed readings using a GPS. You might find that the larger wheels actually make the speedo read more accurately! Generally most speedos overread, so the larger wheels will compensate some. Cant see any reason why the ABS ECU needs altering.

    Suspected bottom end failure

Now that's a neat Idea. I once bought one of those off the shelf tow bars from Halfords to tow my sister in law 5 miles - it broke after 3. She didnt help with her poor handling of the car though. Ever since, I've kept straps. I also now have an Ivor Williams flatbed trailer with ramps which I...

    Nut and bolt kits

+1 Google galvanic corrosion for another reason as to why Stainless is a bad idea. It causes rust in steel if its touching it, or corrosion in aluminum if it is in contact with that.

aux input on p38 HK system (all said it wasnt poss)

I know its an old post - Just thought that an update should be posted to help keep those who want to have different audio inputs into the P38. I've just ordered a cable from Land Rover Discovery Range Rover Aux adapter CTVLRX002 for iPod iPhone MP3 etc | In Car Connections Land Rover Discovery...

    terrafirma steering damper.

Agree, it had 83k on when I got it. I looked online and found new p38 dampers at only £18each. I dont know if they were OEM, but at that price I didn't reckon that they would last or do a good job. Hence the decision to go for a recognised aftermarket brand. Any idea on how many miles the OEM...

    terrafirma steering damper.

Koni pre-loaded dampers made a massive improvement to my 2001 p38. With the old OEM units, I felt every line and joint in the road and the tram lining was quite noticeable. Konis made it very useable. I haven't changed steering damper.

    Twin Batteries.

With the twin tank setup, coolant circuit gets heated on ordinary diesel whilst driving. R U plumbing the switchover solenoids so you can put the return dino into the veg tank to assist? Also important for shutdown to prevent Palm getting into your startup tank. My P38 takes about 3 miles to...

    Twin Batteries.

Simpler to get the biggest single battery you can fit in. It'll be more reliable. If you do go with 2 batteries, 2 of the the odessy / optima batteries can be fitted in the battery compartment of a P38. Its tight but manageable. Best to use a split charge circuit and run the aux loads off the...

    Door Hinge Removal

I haven't had the pleasure of a defender yet. Still on my first P38. I spent a long time killing any surface rust on chassis. If you take precautions with SS bolts, as prev mentioned then It will minimise corrosion. If you are concerned, remove a bolt, inspect the area it's bolted into, and...

    Door Hinge Removal

Aluminum will corrode just as quick. It's less noble. If you really must use a dissimilar bolt then best practice would be to use zinc chromate paste, duralac - aka "gorilla snot". It's available from Light aero spares www.lasaero.com Another good idea is to put a nylon washer under the head...

    Door Hinge Removal

Stainless wont rust - BUT it'll cause the less noble metal that it is fixed into to rapidly corrode.

    Great security mod and cheap.

Talking of security mods. The P38 door security is "poor" to be polite. I have been locked out twice, when the central locking activated itself. I was outside the vehicle and the keys were in the ignition. On both occasions I got into the vehicle within 3 minutes - and that was without...

    biodiesel seris 2 - 200tdi

I like the feeling of not having to fill up at filling stations:D I try to run Bio in my startuptank, then veg in my main tank. I have found that Bio can vary in quality, so blending it helps if you get a batch thats slightly down on power. Only once did I get a really poor result - I had...

    Audio issue

Thanks for that - looks like I'm going to investigate unplugging the sat-nav drive and then check for any sign of the old telephone interface. There was one at a time. Ultimately I think that replacing both units with an aftermarket unit with a 6.1" screen should allow me to get Satnav, and...

    Audio issue

Yes, factory Sat Nav. Kaput. I didn't think it was worth fixing. Two of the plugs on the back of the satnav unit were similar and could be inadvertently swaped round. That killed the headend unit!

    Veggie convert!

Any veg - either new or used needs heated. It needs to act similar to diesel, so either thinning to make it the same viscosity or heating to again make it as thin as diesel. I cold filter down to 1 micron.
