Brake pads worn to metal in 3 weeks!!!

Thanks for the comments good to know other people have the same issue. I jet wash the car after every outing which is normally every week. Iv been out about 12 times since I rebuilt my front brakes so I'm going to strip them down and see how they look although that was new discs pads and...

Brake pads worn to metal in 3 weeks!!!

Hi, iv tried searching but couldn't find much. I fitted a set of new Delphi pads to the rear of my discovery just over 3 weeks ago. I have since done less than 300 miles with 2 days off roading. I only drive to and from the off road site. Upon stripping the rear axle off the car today iv...

    Rear diff, WHAT DIFF! boom

It really depends how much you want to down as there are lots of options. You can buy a reconditioned diff will all genuine bearings and seals with a new 4 pin unit in it for £400. That or if you've got the money for just under £900 you could get a reconditioned diff with Ashcroft sir locker...

    Rear diff, WHAT DIFF! boom

Iv done this a few times now. Just ordered a locker to replace it with this time. Although it can happen on the road its usually caused from damage off roading. If you "wind" the diff possibly when a wheel is airborne or in soft mud then suddenly get traction there is a huge amount of force put...

what is the housing at rear of discovery

Just a sedimenter, catches water and dirt from the fuel to try to protect the lift pump as your fuel filter is after the lift pump. Your meant to drain it every so often but not many people do meaning its normally so full it makes no difference to the system. I know a fair amount of people who...

    progressive problem

Could be your swivel bearings/joint. If the seals away there's a posibility something has broken or causing the wheel to sit at a funny angle. Try jacking the car up and check for play In the wheel at the 12-6 positions and 3-9 positions. You could also get someone to look underneath for...

    Tap petty sound

Id pull the rocker cover off and check valve clearances. When I rebuilt my head I never set one if the inlet rockers properly. You couldn't hear it on tickover but as soon as you revved it sounded terrible and sent out plooms of white smoke. Cheers mark

    winch

Doesn't bother me if it is or not. I know its a cheap winch which will have a short lifespan and I can't justify a decent winch for what I use it for. Clearly as with a lot of things you get what you pay for but as far as a budget winch I'm happy with it and a few of my friends have the same...

    winch

Same as the one iv just bought. They are made in the same factory as champion or warrior winches. Few of my friends have them and they seem to work well. Only downside is the solenoid box is the older style which isn't sealed so it doesn't like a soaking, seal it up or relocate it and your good...

    Axle/calliper query

My disco has t pieces inside the arches, basically both flexi pipes run Into the T then its 1 solid line back from there. You do get single feed callipers also as my dads disco has them fitted. Mark

    wheel bearing stub axle advice

Did he explain the logic as to how ball bearings inside your wheel would balance it? The only thing I can see them doing is making a lot if noise! I'm not trying to be wide btw, just genuinely interested to see what the logic behind the idea was. Cheers mark

Diff lock light switch - access

If your looking from underneath the switch is about 3" behind the difflock lever but you'll need a mirror to see it unless your heads the size of a tennis ball haha.

Diff lock light switch - access

Ah ok. In that case pull the console out, I managed to do mine from underneath by wedging myself between the chassis and gearbox and pretty much doing it by feel but it wasn't easy. If your doing it from above or at least mostly from above you will be cable to see what your working on. Try to...

Diff lock light switch - access

Sorry just realised you've said you have an auto box. Not sure if the access is the same as a manual

Diff lock light switch - access

It's definitely easier having access from above but it can be done from below and it would save removing the centre console and drilling out the cover plate. Cheers mark
