hi guys i got a discovery 1 300 tdi. i did a full engine service and am in the middle of fitting a clutch and gearbox. when i was under the vehicle i spotted a aluminum circlar housing with fuel pipes leading into it .located drivers rear floor. is this a second filter or what is it.as ive only had r/r classics in the paST and this is the first disco i had.

Probably the charcoal filter for emissions control. Pipes should run back to the fuel tank breathers. Assuming that the fuel filter is already identified...

If it's on the inside of the chassis rail near the rear offside wheel,it's the fuel sedimenter which separates water and muck from the fuel.

Just a sedimenter, catches water and dirt from the fuel to try to protect the lift pump as your fuel filter is after the lift pump. Your meant to drain it every so often but not many people do meaning its normally so full it makes no difference to the system. I know a fair amount of people who have done away with it due to fueling problems.

Cheers mark

I would strongly advise keeping the sedimenter and cleaning it out regularly - just don't touch the white plastic tap, it'll break off !!!

maybe, but only if its full of crud, clean it out and replace fuel and air filter to see how you get on
