If I put a volt meter on the terminals when the engine is running, should I be able to see if it is over charging???

I am in the middle of a major overhaul of my 1999 TD5 Defender, and it seems my alternator is over heating. Any ideas why???

I am new to this. Should I be disconnecting the brake lines at the calipers, then keep filling the brake fluid reservoir whilst pumping the brake pedal until fresh fluid comes out at the calipers??? Sorry to sound stupid, but this is a first for me. Thanks.

I am struggling getting a part number for the coolant pipe that leaves the coolant header tank / expansion tank. It forks off to the heater matrix. It is a 1999 TD5 Defender 110. Any ideas??? Thanks.

Hi James I have just tested my brakes as you mentioned above, and with the reservoir top off, and the brake pedal pumped with the engine on, there is a large splash. It looks like lava of a volcano erupting!! What does this mean (air getting in I presume??). Thanks for your help.
