depends how much your replacin, i recently changed mine for one with chassis rail extensions so i took tub off, reckon replacin just cross mem would be ok just jackin up.. never done it this way myself though! if you take tub off spot weld a piece of steel fromm chassis rail to a marked spot...

You mean your fitting the disco gearbox too? are you aware this is longer and will sit further back than your defender box, your gearbox will end up where your cubby box is now! (i think??) If you are sitting the engine forward to allow for this then i can see why you want to weld on...

its not that difficult if you have the tools, hardest part is gettin the stubborn remains of the old one off. i found outrigger to be a fraction of the effort of the rear cross member! the new one will come with extended faces to meet the chassis if ya get me? it has two holes where two...

attach small weight to string, stand chassis on end (hassle i know, but not if you have a pulley wheel etc..) and drop and hopefully wiggle its way down to other hole then pull loom back with string!

i think what he means is that just because its passed its MOT doesnt mean that same welding will get it through again! So dont assume it couldnt be that bad just because it has an MOT Looky here, this guy bought his with an mot too i think...

welcome yes you could get a very clean 200/300tdi for that or even td5.. model will affect price though as mentioned above go find a few you like the look of on ebay or somewhere than put link to them in a thread and ask for opinions on value condition milage etc... And pictures...

take a hammer and flat screwdriver, if he's confident about his chassis he shouldnt minf you havin a poke around it. Give all the flat surfaces a good taping with the hammer- you want to hear a ping noise when you do this, this means the metal is strong a thud or dull noise on impact...

the disco 200tdi is pretty much exactly the same, once its fitted well you shouldn't know the difference, iv no experience but i hear the later ones are more reliabe than when it first came out and was suceptible to Head Gasket problems
