    So ****ed off

How? When my uncle bought his defender it had locking nuts and no key. Took us under half an hour to get all 4 off and that was while trying not to scratch the wheels.

    Quick recovery question

I totally agree with you and this is an argument I've had many times. I use a single eye on my steering guard at a time. I've seen eyes bent inwards before. I know each eye will take enough weight so I just use one. A way around this would be make the rope so long that the inward pull is...

need some advice about recoveries ( pics included)

Just to add my 2ps worth, a disco would shift that. I'd have brought it out backwards as slowly as i could with the door open and someone watching ready to stop it should it roll. Once it was out I'd imagine there was some steering damage so it would have gone on my trailer. If I didn't have the...

    Window Tint Removal

Is "stop moaning" helpful? My windows are limo on limo on top of limo. Thats what wing mirrors are for.

    welder needed

I'd do it, my welding is definitely excellent but the fuel would cost more than it's worth and considering there's about £10 in my tank I wouldn't make it :p

    Winch Wiring

Someone will correct me I'm sure but an 8000 will draw the same as a 13000 unless you need more than 8000lbs and you rarely will.

How hard is a chassis swap?

I'd say the answer is how long is a piece of string? Without being big headed I reckon I could swap a chassis in a week or two. The problem is you won't just swap the chassis. You'll start looking at other bits that are a bit tatty like springs. Before you know it you've sunk a few grand into it...

    maxxis buckshot mudders

I imagine abs would help but in my experience they are horrible on wet roads.

    maxxis buckshot mudders

They are the tyres I've used for about a year (285/75 16) and I promise you they are NOT good on road. They are good off road, I do some serious stuff but trust me they are close to dangerous on road. They use a lot more fuel too. The main problem is that they don't displace any water. I've...

Traction control and HDC light staying on

Sounds like you're right on the edge of it's towing limit. Nothing you can do about that other than swap it for a discovery or range rover. May I suggest a disco 3? A lot of kit for your money and will pull a house over. As said above, the clutch was probably already going. Have you put in a...

Does you defender ever jump out of low/high ratio?

Lock to unlock yes, high to low... not really. I do low to high at about 1mph because it helps it slot in but don't do it any faster, it will put you through the windscreen. Difflock can be engaged or disengaged up to 10 mph.

Best off road, Defender or Series?

If we're talking equivalent cars (eg. a standard fender vs a standard series or a kitted up fender vs a kitted up series) then the defender is better. Tbh you get very extreme before you start to see a difference. Coil springs and a much more powerful engine are a big help.

Help Please. Which Land Rover has the smallest engine?

I learnt to drive in a 90 at about 14 and I still drive it at 17 but now every day. I love it, the insurance is about as cheap as you can get (if there is such a thing). I've done 300 mile trips in it and it drives you mad but you just have to accept it. A mate of mine had a series and I think...

    Dream toolbox

I have new tools and my grandads 40 year old tools. I always go back to the old ones. I bent a pair of brand new wire crimpers last week so I got out the ones that he did his apprenticeship with and they did the job. I love old tools.

    2 probably stupid questions

I always rub oil on any exposed metal under my fender when I'm working on it. It started off as me just wiping my hands but eventually it's built up so that most of the bottom is covered.

what size wheel is best and why not use remolds?

To me the difference in price isn't justified. Remoulds are the same off road. I have had a chunk of rubber fly off a special track before but for the price, I don't really care. It's still cheaper to buy 6 insas for every 4 simex.
