Always up for a days off-roading and 1 appeared. Got invited to drive some Wiltshire green lanes was informed there is water/ford crossings & possible scratchy paint due to overgrowth.
What s day. :)
Sun,dry weather and lanes I've never drove before even though I live 30 mins away from the start.
Cracking company & I will return the favour of sending routes.
;)

Wiltshire is ace. I was down a lane near Stonehenge watching the apaches when one swung round and circled us with the front facing us. Then roared away low and disappeared. Popped up behind a tree line behind us a few minutes later. I think it was practising targeting or something. Was ace :)

Need to do a proper day down there though :)

Yes/Yes, and a definite YES.....was a good day for a drive. Now just have to get some glue on the snorkel.
Good catching up today, now to plan the next run.

Cheers

Thought it were your 90 .. :)

Had a thought, as I've only been to Wiltshire a couple of times ... We've had a Bakewell Bash a couple of times, what about a Wiltshire ****? The name might need a bit of work though ... ;) You know, camping weekend at a pub, lots of beer and frolics and laning for charideee.

Oooh, could be done, only thing is the lanes can be fairly tight and scratchy..would never be able to guarantee otherwise unless it was a lot of road miles between the lanes..but there is the plains to go on as well...Already know of a pub that has showers etc.

Cheers

The main reason I have thought about it is because I've been asked, in the past, to do a Bakewell Bash somewhere down south ... Dunno how Bakewell feel about it though.

Having been on the Bakewell Bash last year (although without my 90) I could only hope the Wilts Wimble would be as good.

I enjoyed the lanes that we did last year. Great lanes, nice and easy, plus great scenery. Venue was nice, but wherever it is , can you book slightly warmer weather for around the campfire please...LOL.

Cheers

Must admit, I know Derbyshire, so it's much easier for me to just do it again .. maybe at another pub, and another similar route, there are a few!

Weather can be booked for any say you like, though what's on one side of a valley, might not be on the other .... or even in between .. :)

Been out on the bike with the dogs.
Nice & quiet on the closed lanes.still they are wet.
Only another month until local lanes are open.

Well I've been sat on OS app planning routes. As you can see a nice 53 miles nearly all off road.
Yes the title shows the end point but you will need to get maps out to find the start.
Just waiting for May to arrive when the lanes open.
Might even go out on my bike Sunday while the lanes are quiet with traffic.

Looks like a lot of lanes, :):) I take it you have checked it against the ROW closures page.

Cheers

Yep. All open May. Seasonal closures ends
2 have VRO which should also end 30/04. These are on the ROW closure page.
I like Wiltshire as they are also well signposted.

Lanes are still wet.
Couple of old potholed lanes Sunday. All these are hard cored so no ground damage.

This lane is closed till May but you still get very large tractors using this to get to the fields.

Rode out on the mountain bike & nice to see no one around. Lovely quiet morning(apart from tractors).

Need some warmth to get the land drier

WILTSHIRE RIDGE SEASONAL TRO EXTENSION

Wiltshire County Council issued a press release today (27th April) as follows:

Byway closed to aid Ridgeway recovery

A section of the Ridgeway near Avebury will remain closed to cars and motorbikes for an extra 21 days while it recovers from severe winter weather.

The byway from Green Street to Hackpen Hill in the heart of the World Heritage Site is still affected by deep ruts and standing water.

It was due to re-open for the summer on 1 May, but Wiltshire Council has introduced a three-week prohibition of driving order to give it more time to recover.

The order may be extended by an extra 21 days if necessary. The stretch will remain open for walkers, horses and cyclists but closed to motorbikes and motor vehicles apart from emergency services and landowners.

Bridget Wayman, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for highways, said: “The weather in recent weeks has left the surface of the byway severely rutted, and it is still holding water in numerous locations. “There are globally important archaeological features on and immediately below the surface and they need to be protected from further damage.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and would like to thank the public for their understanding and co-operation.”

The entire Wiltshire stretch of the Ridgeway National Trail is already subject to an annual prohibition of public motor vehicles from 1 October to 30 April to protect it from damage.
-ends-

This means the Ridgeway will re-open on 1st June.

Cheers
