Hi Guys

Rev counter on my 300tdi had developed a problem where the needle keeps bouncing around at steady revs, its doing my head in!!,

Any idea`s?????

Cheers
Craig

Mine did the same, it ended up being the wire connection on the back of the alternator, I changed the spade connector and all is fine, it can also mean the alerntor is playing up

My speedo dial does that sometimes. Especially when the weather is damp! I'm guessing its a loose connection/bad earth somehwere. Anyone know where that sensor is?

it is on a 300tdi;)

So Mr Ratty Sir what you're saying is the SPEEDO takes its drive from the back of the alternator? No Kidding?

So does that mean the rev counter takes its drive from the sensor on the transfer box?

I still don't think so.

I have the same problem as Dom-300tdi. normally does it when driving down the motorway way at about 70mph. pretty disconcerting i can tell ya. speedo suddenly drop to 0 and then flicks backwards and forwards back to 70. only lasts for a few seconds, reckon its a loose connection somewhere. yet to investigate.

If yoove gotten abs or traction control doo-dahs, the speedo gets its signal from the wheel sensors.

If it is misbehaving, it might be a good time to take orff the wheels and clean all the sensors and the slotted rotors they look at.
