:D
Got me motor back today :) Nice to back behind the wheel of a Landy :)

Not running to sweetly though  Had to swap the head for my spare...
so don't now if some old **** has got on a valve seat some were... not much power (less than usual) and sounds 'lumpy' (best way of describing it).
Will take the rocker cover off tommorow and check the rocker clearance's... one might have opened up... we shall see...

Good news :D No. 1 exhaust tappet looked like it had been set with the handle of the feeler blade !! Massive gap !
Reset and now runs as good as it ever did :):)
Also repositioned the shaft in the boost capsule (eccentric cone thing) Much better acceleration at low RPM. A little smoke when you show it the rod... so might adjust the 'star wheel' some more to compensate.
And there's heat from the heater !! Happy days :D

Should have put difflock on at the botom of the hill you might have made it up 1st time. Why would you try to reverse up??? all the weight is transferred to the downhills side and the rear end loses all traction.

As to difflock not working try :search: on how ya difflock works. How do you think an axle that has no difflocks could possibly lock it's diff?? How many diffs does a landy have? how many difflocks? where is that difflock located? It helps if you try to think about how summat works, before you assume that it's not working.
I did have difflocks engaged from the bottom of the hill. The top comes to a dead end and you have to do a three point turn. I managed to spin the front end round. I tried to reverse up to the barn doors. There is about two foot of snow on compacted snow and ice. Which is where my problem started. Sounds from you guys that my difflock is working as it should be then. Haven't got time to check it out as I am leaving for Dubai in a couple of hours. Wont be back for a week. Will have to wait till I get back.

Right so two and a half hours to strip the engine and I found out the problem fairly soon after taking off the inlet manifold!

Here are the pics :)

So heres the engine minus the inlet and pipes, you can see a lot of **** there! #### knows what it is but it seemed to be mud, coolant and metal flakes……..

Little dark inside and you can see a pool of emulsified oil/water in the corner! Now the engine has been covered up properly so thats old!

RUST

Timing cover came off easy enough as did the water pump….oil filter wasn't having any of it though

Chain looks ok at first glance and was nice and tight

Right so two and a half hours to strip the engine and I found out the problem fairly soon after taking off the inlet manifold!

Shocked at that chain link? was it making any noise before?
The valley gasket on my was lined with mud too, but wasn't leaking, but still had the congealed water.
Piston 4 looks corroded.. or am I seeing things?
how many mile had it done?

spear the oil filter with a big #### off screwdriver, should come off

Just been driving in very deep snow up a steep lane. Got to the top but then the wheels started slipping and sliding. Engaged Diff locks and managed to slide the Defender round but could not reverse up the hill. I noticed when diff lock engaged I had the front right wheel spinning and the left rear. Is that normal. I thought when diff locks are engaged all four should be spinning?.
if its only the standard difflock its about right

Couldn't hear anything when it was cranking no rattling or anything

Mine had leaked into the inlet on pot 8 and 2 IIRC, cba checking pics haha but as you can see the cam is well worn and pitted!

Piston 4 is just dirt, dropped out onto the pickup bed and picked up a little ****e

As to the filter good plan! Will get on that next time, new engine going in first before I rebuild this bastard with a 4.0 crank, new bearings and high torque cam :D

Will also put SU's on it or something else ;)

Fitted two new cv joints, hubs were completely filled with crap more mud than grease! Cleaned them and drained them. Then refilled them, got to say busters guide was most helpful ! Very happy much quieter than before. Now I have 12 months mot I think it's about time I treat the old girl to a full service, only cost £20 for it to pass not bad seeing as I only paid £850 for her just before Christmas

Fitted the fire extinguisher to the rear of the cubby box and fitted new front floor mats ... took best part of the day but well worth it! :5bhat:

She's failed her MoT on panhard bushes and a headlight pointing too low!

Got the old bushes out with a 22mm socket and typically, I can't get replacement bushes until Wednesday!
