Me serpentine belt stopped squealing at last :D Only problem is the fooking belt tensioner stud stripped itself out of the casting. Lost power steering in a very tiny carpark  it had only been screwed in about 6mm. so hopefully the rest of the thread will be ok. To make sure, I have smothered the stud threads in epoxy metal resin. and screwed it in as far as I could.

Watch this space

:( Took disco for MOT failed on rear axle brake pipe so can't really complain for a 15yr old vehicle only done 3 thou miles since last MOT.

got part way through doing one of me rear trailing arm bushes, had to take a break in the middle for a visit to A&E...
trailing arm, thumb and hammer, makes a pretty good guillotine, now got a lump of thumb held on with steristrip stitch things, came back n got the new bush in though, just ran out of light/will to refit the arm.
other side to do tomorrow, note to self, hit drift, not thumb...
not happy, wanted to at least finish one side today!!

They're no good, those steristrips. I had those when I nearly lost the tip of my middle finger a few years ago. After a while they had to put real stitches in instead and it healed up. Get well soon!

I had a session today trying to get the drain plug out of my R380 gearbox. It doesn't have a 32 mm hex like everyone else's, but an odd shaped recess, which defies every implement I've got, even with a little grinding down to fit. On another forum it was suggested that it might be a 3/8" square but it certainly isn't. It must have been well and truly butchered before I got it. I entertained various thoughts like drilling and tapping a new hole in the gearbox (no, too much swarf will get in with the gears) or trying to weld a nut on (well, if it won't shift with a 1m breaker bar it'll shear off a dollop of weld), so it looks like I'll have to change the oil from the top hole instead. New toy time. I've ordered an oil sucker from Ebay. Whilst underneath I forced a bit of grease into the propshaft nipples front and rear, so that's a useful job done. I also attacked the interior to try and get instant gasket compound out of the upholstery. I accidentally squashed a tube of the stuff last week and it got everywhere. Having tried detergent and white spirit to no avail I used brake cleaner and it seemed to work quite well.

took it to ATS and watched the tyre fitter struggle to get the tyres off the 2 front Zu's. swapped they tyres off me steel rims onto the Zu's now got 10/11mm tread instead of 6/7mm also wheels rebalanced so hopefully bloody shake at 50 to 60mph will go now.

fitted a jate ring to front leg of of the defenders chassis ready for laning toimorrow.

picked up the NATO hitch I painted 5 days ago and had the fooking paint smear off all over me hands. Still wet after 5 days FFS  so had to clean it all off will try again with noo paint when it's warmer :(
