Had a box of goodies turn up from paddocks including service kit and new reverse light switch and gear box filter :) just need some ATF now so a can get the jobs done over easter break .

Had a play with the wheel bearings today after a pause of a few days coz of work.

Off side now ship shape.......... :D

Found out the front brakes are 11 inch........... :D

One slave on each side is toast................ :(

The money pit strikes again..............

Greased the hell out of the rear prop uj then drove to work with noticeably less vibration so greased the rest of the points underneath and decided tomorrow the uj is getting replaced

Bugger all to mine. But managed to annoy the life out of someone in a Silver D1 between Leyhill & Yate. & all I did was drive to the speed limit. :)

Got myself a mot and some tax yesterday then today I replace my oil pump with a bran spanker whilst my mate did a bit more structural work on the roll cage. Just need to go on a test drive and hope it dose the trick. I've recently rebuild the engine but was too tight to buy oil pump so feeling confident it's going to work.

Replaced the rearmost uj with a spare I had laying around that's taken care of most of the vibration now just need to check the swivel preloads and hope that cures the rest of it if not then the only thing left is wheel balance

Yesterday i finished off moving stuff round on my tow bar / rear X member :D

as it was and how it is now:)

Broke down last night near Boston in Lincolnshire. As I drove, all of a sudden the speedo and fuel gauge dropped to zero, then picked up again, then dropped, then stopped at about 20mph. which didn't vary with the road speed. Thinking I might have a loose connection I stopped and waggled all the multipugs and relays I could find, including ones behind the instrument console. Tried to restart and just received a rapid clicking noise. Fiddled again and just got he same thing, even after tapping the starter in case it had jammed. Called the AA and eventually they sent a man out who fiddled and poked around with his meter and said he suspected a faulty alternator. With a jump from his spare battery, the starter whirred and the engine started, and in the twilight gloom we saw lots of sparking and arcing from the big nut on the alternator to which the main feed to the battery is attached. The nut was loose and had overheated and welded itself to the stud. The one connection I hadn't checked. I was kicking myself. Eventually he got it moving for me without snapping the terminal off the alternator. With everything clamped down tight we got 13 volts at the battery terminals so that was enough to get home.

Today I took it apart and sandpapered the mating faces back to bright metal and got a whopping 14.5 volts at the battery terminals. Good. Interesting symptoms though - no red charging warning light and only two gauges affected in a curious intermittent way. So when we stopped I wasn't thinking about alternators. So I thought I'd write it up here in case it is any use to anyone else.

Yes, I was a bit surprised, because I know what low battery symptoms look and sound like on my Defender and this wasn't like anything I'd seen before. But it all made sense to the AA subcontractor so all was well in the end.

The other thing I was pleased with was that the alternator seems to be OK, because people on here say that if they're rotated when not connected it makes them faulty. But I think it's alright.

Finally got round to fitting 4 new track rod ends, there's now play in the steering now but it's not as positive as I hoped it would be.
Probably need the tracking setup properly, is there a diy way to do it ?

Repaired my bullbars again welded some more of my chassis. Also made up a rear light bar for my work light and beacons. Got the work light wired up but still need to wire the beacons
