Need to pull the timing case off of my disco 200tdi lump to replace oil seals that have let go. Does anyone know what gaskets I need for the time case to block? I can't seem to find the right ones. If anyone has done it before any advice would be much appreciated. Its a larger job to do!
Just want to confirm - the big bolt holding the crank pulley on is a 30mm on a disco 200tdi? Does anyone know if this has a torque setting and need thread lock? Whats the best way of securing the pulley when trying to tighten it up? Cheers
hi a2dds, after having to do my timing belt twice on my 200 tdi,
the first time I made all my tools...
could have just bought them, but I have time, so,
found a socket that fits, welded that to a fecked 1/2 ratchet.
split a length of scaffold pole long enough to cover the outside of the socket, then welded that on too.......you will find out why !!
upon unbolting the actual bottom pulley by its 4 bolts, used that as a guage to markout a lump of steel chequerplate that goes over the bottom pulley, bolts to it, but long enough to cover the chassis rail....you will find out why !!
obviously, the rad was out !
you need to set the chequerplate so it touches the chassis, put your socket on the nut, and I used a length of scaffold pole and heaved, or,
you can use the starter to swing your socket with short bar (held very tightly on socket bar) WITHOUT the bolted chequerplate being bolted on, and just flick the starter and BANG it will go..
(top tip / chalk a line from crank bolt to front rubber & steel part of pulley)
so you can keep a check on if its undoing..
it does work this way but can chuck off the socket and bar alarmingly..lol
time for tightening needs the chequerplate holding the big pully/balancer tight, locktight in threads, socket on, and tighten to specs (about 230 ft lbs If I can remember)
or in my case, with a grunt and length of scafold pole...your choice..
gaskits needed are suitable for your engine, everyone sells then with oil seal I guess....
just a thought, if your going to take off the front plate, why not do the timing belt too, you get everything you need in a kit then.....
sorry for being long winded, but its the way I explain..
I`m in north essex, and can lend my tools for doing the job to anyone who needs them, but if I dont get them back I`ll do a Niam Leeson...
lol...
