Thanks. Just driven around a bit and I am pretty sure that has sorted out the problem. Leaked a lot from those connectors and I never even considered they could be responsible! Seems to be running better too although that may be psychological! Every day’s a school day. Now to wait for the next problem….
 
Went for a drive and saw this on the side of the road - Late model Diesel FL1. Driver prob' went to sleep as it was at the end of a long straight. Left the road, climbed / straddled an earth bank and took out a concrete power pole which then landed on top of it.

Well, didn’t take long to find something else! One of the coolant hoses to the IRD has nearly been split by the gear change mechanism rubbing it as gears are changed. I have managed to move the hoses so it doesn’t chaff anymore. Have to change the hose soon as but didn’t have any handy replacement. Not the easiest thing to reach either but what is? Also have discovered why my FBH doesn’t work. Because I haven’t got one 😂.

Presumably you must get to recognise the local FL1s to you.

Ouch. Shows how sturdy the body is though.
 
After being stood for 6 years, today the Freelander got it's MOT! Almost a clean bill of health with just one advisory for the rear tyres being slightly out of shape. Having done:
Battery
Starter Motor
Alternator (complete with lower bolt previously installed wrong way)
Front Discs & Pads
Rear Shoes, cylinders and hardline from flex
Full brake fluid change
Reverse switch
Load of bulbs

Needless to say I'm rather happy. Need to do rear tyres, full service (inc timing belt), passenger rear door seal, heater cable, and see if I can get the sunroof to close! Should make a nice little tow bus for the trailer, can't use it every day due to ULEZ.

A sad sight. Hopefully the occupants were okay. RIP another FL

It was North of Balclutha a few Kms before the Central Otago turn off. I initially thought it was a V6. I didn't see and signs of injury - airbags had deployed...
 
Did my annual tyre rotation to even up the wear. While the front wheels were off, I took the opportunity to remedy a small amount of surface corrosion on the front subframe, where it gets all the road water and debris thrown at it.
I cleaned off the dirt and salt with the pressure washer. Once dry I treated the rusty area with Bilt Hamber Hydrate-80, which is my favourite rust treatment. Then it got 2 coats if Bonda zinc primer, before 2 coats of Hammerite stone chip protection.

Hopefully that will keep my rather fussy MOT tester happy.

Tried out the brand new heated windscreen, so nice to have the whole lot clear really quickly! (wondering how much my insurance will go up next year though...)

I was driving round a sharp corner couple of weeks ago and gave myself a fright on an icy part of the road.
TBH I was messing about and deliberately accelerated harder than necessary but was taken by surprise when the rear stepped out in a big way. I was expecting under steer but got a fist full of over steer instead. 😲 How does yours behave if you drive like a hooligan?
 
Today I put mine in van mode for renovating and moving into new abode, which best of all has a detached garage for me to live in. Oh, also looked in the boot cubbyhole and baled it out. Grandson was impressed with my luxury car pond though. Not all cars have that.
 
Fitted the spare dash surround that I sprayed black.

Originally I tried spraying the side covers satin black but for some reason the paint did not take properly so one side looked shiny and the other didn't. 😳
I would have tried again except I had run out of satin black so I said stuff it and sprayed it with lacquer. Maybe the satin would have been nicer but it is still better than the silver original (in my humble opinion). I already sprayed the door handles, radio surrounds and mirrors satin black and they look great.
If you're wondering what the toggle switch is for I use it to turn off the power steering pump while charging. ;)

I love the handling of this car, because I can steer by gas pedal. It handles like 4wd on icy curves but I can get the rear out quite easily. It's still very controlled with nordic studded winter tyres.
 
Replaced HPFP regulator, four injectors, crank sensor, cam sensor, map sensor - all from a complete engine I took delivery of a few days ago. I figure if I can't isolate the problem I can now just swap parts until it is fixed. Also changed one of the injector collars which had snapped.
