There are 2 bulbs in a single housing IIRC. My FL2 has 2 separate lamp units, which I changed to LED as one bulb had fallen out of the fitting. LED lamp assemblies can't do that.
It's strange why the wife's Audi was passed with only 1 lamp of the 2 operating, but was given an advisory for the failed 1. My daughter's Fiat 500 was the same, only one worked for the test, but it also passed with an advisory. This is the same place I've been going to for about 10 years, but they've got very picky on corrosion, advising or failing for reasons I don't think are valid. They've just failed my other daughter's car on a rusty rear axle, but it's not holed, just corroded. I'm tempted to take it to another test centre for a second opinion.
You do get over zealous testers or those who don't know the rules without doubt. As a class 2 tester in my motorcycle days I remember a customer bringing in a bike with a missing chain guard, as these weren't part of the mot (at the time) & the rest was ok it passed he then said it had failed down the road on that issue. Chain guards along with front mudguards & no. plates weren't part of the test & would only fail if fitted but were insecure/missing bolts/bent/rubbing on something they shouldn't or likely to drop off. I showed him a failure cert. & pointed out that there was no failure box to tick as they weren't testable items. As for lighting if I had a bike with a defective lamp I would check the bulb & change or even correct loose connections if it didn't take to much time. I would still issue a failure but a pass as well. Any simple faults I'd corrected avoided a full re-test because the bike hadn't left the premises saving the owner money & inconvenience. I kept the paperwork side of things correct so the DOT didn't think we were passing every bike (they frown on garages with 100% pass rates). Missing rear reflectors (where people loved to chop the the bit off below the no. plate, where the original sat) was another common failure but we kept plenty of the stick on ones in stock & again issue failure along with a pass, I personally couldn't be that petty. BTW the police under the constructions & use act could still nick you for a missing mudguard (lack of spray suppression) but as it wasn't a testable item....... might have changed nowadays.

I think as it's a door they need to check that it's secure?
It's not uncommon for the MOT tester to open the boot, he did on my daughter's Toyota last week.

I had a tester try to fail a car on a questionable spare tyre once, except when I challenged him he said he was trying to sell me a new tyre along with the test. I didn't go there for an MOT again.

I use a place called ‘Nothing but MOT’s’.
Unsurprisingly, that’s all they do - no repairs, no parts, no spares. No fee if it fails, only pay once retested and passed.

No chance of upselling. Nice bunch of people. And you can usually get in the same/next day! What’s not to like!

My mot tester always opens and closes the boot while checking the doors and seat belts. Previous place did anorl.

Refuelled it using the Sun. :)
Partially. 🤔
I don't get much solar these days but today was sunny so I took what I could get. I deliberately used the granny charger as it only delivers 2.2kW so makes the best use of the solar that was giving around 800W. If I had used the wall charger it would have given 3.4kW so charged more quickly but taken more energy from the grid.

Did you manage to charge it to the recommended 80% (if that's correct) or did the sun disappear ? Have loved every minute of this thread as it goes to show what's achievable by some (not including me as it's way out of my league). Do you think you'd get it to a LR show/camping weekend, Billing etc anytime ? As it deserves to be at one, top man.

Thanks mate, if I ever work out what 80% is I might try to stick to it but I have to admit I don't care about it. If charging to 100% shortens the battery life by a few years then so be it as the car is already on borrowed time. 😋

Managed to lose a front fog light bezel, and catch a sill slightly doing some lanes today, but got up a tough slope with no problem, that a fully kitted out 90 took a couple of go's at.
