Oh I see. I don't think anyone knows where those seats are coming from. Nice to have just hoping I don't need to replace any, as I will have to replace all interior.
I assumed they were a trim kit, based on the fact that my SE came with Alcantara and a rear armrest, both of which are now missing, but like I said, the rear armrest can be felt under the covering.

I'd like to find a set for my recently acquired 1.8 XEi, which has cloth seats.
 
Easy suggestion, swap the seats over and sell the td4 cheaper. That's what I would do, win win. Very easy job I'm sure you know it.
Unfortunately what I've learned in England si that in most cases price is more important than condition etc.
I am looking for a 1.8 myself now, would like 3 doors so I can swap the seats.
But around this area with a 80 mile radius these are all screwed up. Leaks, gaskets gone, etc.

I have thought about that. However I'm selling the TD4 cheap (I think?) already, but only had mild interest. I'm thinking the gearbox issue is putting people off, although it's behaved itself on the test drives.

I actually like the 1.8, and have a few bits to make it a little more powerful. :D
 
I guess the reason why td4s survive more and still run is because it tolerates more abuse. Sure it has hard to find issues, but in the petrol the issues are easy to find but usually serious and requiring head or inlet manifold off (gasket, dropped liners, piston rings, etc)
I am not giving up hope although by the time I may find one I'll get the td4 fully sorted.
 
The TD4 is more popular than the 1.8, mostly due to the bad press the 1.8 has got over the years. However when the K series is working correctly, it's a bloody good engine. The HG issue can be fixed, as long as it's done before it goes pop in a big way. I've done lots over the years, and had very few subsequent failures.

Went for a first "long" trip, 120km (~80 miles) there and back ;)
Also got couple of cans of liqui molly diesel cleaner to see if it helps with the white/blue smoke when the engine is cold.

Does the VVC inlet plenum chamber give a bit more pep? I guess the throttle on the VVC inlet set-up has the 52mm throttle body?

It's got more volume and the intake runners aren't full of casting flash, so it's good for a couple of horses, especially when combined with longer duration cams.
The 52mm TB helps throttle response too.

Is it an easy swap over ie: unbolt plastic one and bolt on the VVC set-up and hook up the accelerator cable? I have the whole VVC inlet let set-up and an inlet manifold gasket for it too.
Mine's running very well at the mo' so won't be rushing into it soon, but would consider a swap over when the cam belt comes due next. I've got to swap over the cam seal/s then too as I've an annoying oil weep on that end of the motor.
 
There is an issue with the VVC exhaust cams in the MPi K-series engine: it doesn't have the reluctor ring for the cam position sensor (on the VVC, this is handled on the inlet cam rather than the exhaust). On early MEMS1.9 engines, this is not a problem, but you have the issue of how to attach the distributor rotor arm (usually an interference fit spiggot - but the hole on the VVC cams are smaller and threaded for the cam pulleys).

I don't think that any of this is insurmountable, but sadly it isn't quite the straight swap you might hope.

And as a 1.8 FL1 owner (and an owner of two MGFs), I can confidently support the assertion that the K-series is an absolutely awesome engine. You just can't give it death from cold - but once warmed up, it'll take all the abuse you can throw at it all day every day :)

PS if anyone needs their key fobs coding, I have a pscan that can do this. I don't know whether Philip has the FL1 Td4 auto gearbox covered yet, but he may have as I imagine it is pretty much the same as on the Rover 75/ MG ZT CDTi :) Nodge, I can put you in touch if needed... :)

That's the only issue I can see with the cam change. I was thinking that I could fit a reluctor to the cam, or possibly just use the VVC exhaust cam on the inlet of the 1.8 non VVC? Alternatively I guess I can find a couple of cams from the MGF 135, which will have the reluctor ring on the exhaust cam.

@Bounty - how's the external temperature sensor challenge going? Mine's a pre-facelift, but was reading your thread with great interest!

Right now it's stalled harder than me starting on an incline, the sensor is in and attached but the enabling of the option hasn't resulted in anything of consequence despite the T4 being adamant that it was enabled. A Disco ll owner I know said that in order for him to get a clock to appear somewhere he had to change the regional settings to NAS so I'm wondering if I'd have to do the equivalent...

...But the guys with the T4 I was using have gone on holiday so I'm stuffed for the time being
