Today I finally got my sound system the way I want it. All speakers are in the same spot as the originals and I added an under seat sub. Sounds very good.
 
Finally spent some time flushing my power steering, this is what came out - somewhat darker than what went back in!

Also, I investigated a rattle in the engine and I’ve discovered these two grommets have perished causing quite bit more vibration, how would I describe them to buy new ones?

I replaced the three main dash display lights. Only one seemed to have gone but decided to replace all three. Quite lucky really as two had blown with the other working overtime. Now have nice fresh display. :)
 
Fitted a new fuel filter to my face lift FL 1

Why o why did Land Rover decide to put filter just in front of rear wheel when I'm sure space could have been found in the engine bay and the filter/ pump could have been fixed to the bulkhead
On a positive note the pipe connections were easily parted and thanks to those who had posted previous threads on this subject. I removed the rear bracket by undoing the two bolts which held it to the inner wing
 
Was that with or without props?
without props no problem according to mot tester when I rang earlier for booking. As long as there no parts attached ie props no vcu or vcu but no props this would flag. I had neither since bought my fault for bright enough to ask. Anyhoo mine past without any issue.:p

Doing it from below was the dumb mistake I made the first time I did it. :eek: Never again. ;)
 
On Thursday I checked the oil and water in our '99 L Series for a road trip. As expected, oil fine but low on water, every time I check the water, the bottle is empty - topped up.

Then drove 400kms to Waikawa/Picton including climbs over the Kaikoura Ranges in 30 degree temps with 5 on board. As it was so hot, I turned the AC on. After a while, noticed the front passenger footwell flooded in water - literally 1/4 inch of water in it - turned AC off.

Next morning checked again, oil OK, water bottle empty. I'm sure there was far more water in the footwell than I had to top up. Could it have come from the AC? Footwell has been damp on occasions, but not like this. I don't use the AC.

Saturday left Waikawa, round the Queen Charlotte Drive and over the Nelson Ranges to Motueka. This morning, oil OK, coolant bottle wasn't empty but below low.

Today have been over the Takaka Hill to Golden Bay and the Waikoropupu Springs. Its a 8km drag up Takaka Hill, 2nd and 3rd gear all the way - I counted 112 bends many of them hairpins or very tight - then mainly 3rd gear on the decent so as not to fall off a bend into oblivion!

Passenger footwell swimming pool aside, the Freelander has performed great dragging 5 of us 1,200kms so far. Tomorrow, we head back south via Buller Gorge Adventure Park, Punakaiki Rocks, overnight in Greymouth before the BIG climb up Otira Gorge over the Southern Alps and home.

You really could do with a sorting out the coolant loss GG.

AC use can sometimes make the heater box damp on the outside, and even drip condensate if the drain tube is blocked.

However is very suspicious that you're loosing coolant and the foot well is getting wet, as that points to a heater matrix leak.

Changed ird oil but bottom of it is covered in oil drain plug has metal crap on the magnet so it's replace the ird time
