Thanks - I saw these. Great to know what that they've been used with success! If I need to warm it up a little, I could always fit a colour filter! :)

Or, if you can solder SMT devices? Replace the cold white, with warm white equivalents. Manufacturers use cold or day light because the emmiters generally have a higher Lumen count per $, by comparison to warm white, because cool white are brighter. ;)

Did you ever identify the cause of the HG failure?

I've remembered. It was partial bead delamination wasn't it.
Yes that's right. The two inlet head bolt apertures closest to the distributor. The elastomer seal was discoloured and had lifted. Most likely caused by localised overheating due to incorrect filling / bleeding. I live & learn albeit slowly :rolleyes:
 
Today I took delivery of a pair of cheap front lower arms and a pair of rear wheel cylinders. The arms look good quality and actually better made than the original LR items. Interestingly the ball joints are bolted into position, which makes subsequent replacement easy.

Tonight I fitted the NS front arm and its shiny new rear bush I prepared at the weekend.
I also fitted a new wheel cylinder to the NS rear.
Just the OS arm and wheel cylinder to do.
Then bleed the brakes, ready for the MOT on Friday.
Although I've just discovered that the centre seat belt isn't retracting correctly. :(

Check if the seat belt is twisted below the guide. I had a friend called round in a panic cause a mechanic told them the car wouldn't pass MOT without a replacement rear seat. Turned out all I had to do was pop off the plastic guide and it was twisted below. ;)

Good call Ali. I've stripped the belt out tonight and discovered a half twist right at the beginning of the roll. This made the belt a bit to fat to fit in the roller. So I unwound the full length, untwisted it and rewound the belt. It took me all of 15 minutes to sort. Then I tinkered in my workshop for the rest of the evening, before reading your post. I can't do anything else on the car tonight as the weather is horrible. Tomorrow is supposed to be better, so I'll be continuing with the front suspension then.
 
New battery, bolt was spinning so had to take it to a garage but at least it is now starting. Been an expensive month and my wife is beginning to use the term 'money pit'.
 
Today I completed the brake bleeding operation after I replaced all the rear brake lines.
I also fitted the second new front lower arm and a pair on new drop links. Hopefully it'll pass the MOT at 16:00 today.

It passed with no advisories.
There was a recommendation that I treat a few rusty patches that I'd mussed, before they turn serious. Otherwise all is well with the FL for another year. :)

Not worked on TD4 today, had a mate's Golf GTI with TC and ABS light up and dealer wanting £1600 for a new ABS pump. Suspected it was sommat simple, one wheel sensor and 2 dirty connections and all good ! Ordered a VAG diag and reset tool, but didn't need it, reset occurred after self test at about 10mph. Cost £4.99.

Cost £4.99.
My daughters A3 has the ESP light on all the time and I think it is the ABS pump that causes that. Can't believe they quoted £1600 even if it was the ABS pump as a repair kit for them is under £400.

Can't believe they want $800 for a repair kit. My Wabco replacement from a breakers cost $100... then the "don't spill any fluid".... "oh ***, its gone everywhere" fun begins :)

I think it's basically a replacement ABS unit minus the electronics. Not sure if that is a good enough excuse for the price. :confused:

MOT all good thanks. He was very impressed with my new brake lines. Apparently mine are perfectly straight compared to the wiggly pipes he normally gets presented with.
At least I don't need to worry about potential brake failure, if I have to do an emergency stop now. :)
 
Checked the tyre pressures... for the first time in 4 years... there are benefits to being 2WD!

Unwrapped the trailer electrics (socket) from around the towbar support/subframe bracketry which is its new home since being knocked off by a boulder. Hooked up a trailer and dumped a load of garden rubbish down the tip. Haven't got a clue if the electrics still work, but at least I showed willing by plugging it in!

Removed, cleaned MAF sensor, fiddled around under car for 40 odd minutes looking for MAF sensor Torx screw...FFS!

Yesterday.. Leak back test on injectors, results show uneven return of deisel indicating possible need for service/refurb(Nodge has said spray pattern needs to be looked at too. Replaced old inlet hoses for new silicone ones(two left to do) replace complete PCV assembly, removed rear R/H brake drum to vestigate 'locked rear wheel', undid adjuster, freed brake off....needs re investigating....made numerous mental notes of areas of corrosion that require remedial attention before winter....oh, firgot to jrntion removed under rear arch fuel pump/filter assemble, stripped down sedimentor(out of idle curiosity, replaced MANN filter(too long) for OEM MAHLE type...cleaned connectors/earth..........maybe a few other things.....this evening removed seats from my 'resto van'(change of scenary) cleaned 'leisure battery' tray, cleaned terminals, reconnected, replaced all that stuff and then cleaned 'cockpit' (thats where I sit) and rubbed out a few of the jobs I have done on my white board in the van(for the TD4) .................

The arms you mean. They were cheap £52 EBay jobs. Interestingly the quality looks better then the Delphi arms I took off. :confused:

Is it running better, now you have changed and cleaned the bits n bobs?

What makes you think it is the ABS pump?
The reason I ask is cause my A3 did this and it turned out to be a sensor behind drivers seat, didn't cost much iirc. Certainly nowhere near the price you have been quoted.
Get the error codes read is my advice.
