Had it running perfectly first thing this morning - that sweet spot with all faults fixed! Drove 40miles, now have a rattle as if an exhaust bracket (or something'orrible) is loose, and the N/S front window cables snapped! Ahh..back to normal then! :D

Well I have replaced the interior clock again. The man at the scrap yard wasn't best pleased. I kept getting him to get down the freelanders down to get the clocks out. Luckily the 3rd one he got down didn't have any missing pixles. Wasn't a bad price either at 15 quid. The ones on ebay seem to go for much more.

I also put my interior back together again (I had all my center console out doing various bits behind there (cleaning and fixing bits) and I made a start detailing the outside. Although was pretty gutted I didn't seem to get very far. I can normally turn a car around in a day or so but I've only managed to get about a third of the polishing done (Full paint correction). So looks like my Sundays mapped out for me.

I'll get some pictures up in a moment.

Filled it full of gardening tools, took em out at a job, put them back in, got a couple of gallons of petrol, got a £1 scratch card and won a tenner, got a kebab (cos it was a reasonable wage & I'd done ten hours). Came home, unloaded tools, locked it up and hopefully it'll be there tomorrow.

Mundane enough? :D

drove mine out to Ladybower parked it and then walked up onto derwent edge :)

a spitfire flew over while we were there

couldn't get the camera out quick enough so no evidence :(

Every time I go to Ladybower/ Derwent valley I see some crazy airborne stuff. A couple of times I've seen those army helicopter things with two propellers.

Awesome how close they get!

Been working at mucky Kendray and thought a couple of times there was summat abart but I've been on and off with my lid and ear muffs all day..
Lucky bugger!

Don't fancy waddington this year though, it'll be WAY too warm... ;)

Fall out remover in action. The car was really bad.

Here is the bonnet before any correction work.

Here is the bonnet of the car after correction and refinement. :)

Also made a start on re-colouring the bumpers with a heat gun.

Here you can see the rear of the bumper trim matched up with the newly heat gunned trim.

Couple of pictures to show where I am up to at the moment. Still got a hell of a lot of polishing to do!

Today I finally fixed my passenger front window, was sick of the window sliding down while driving then having to pull it up before I locked it.

Only took an hour, and now I have a pleased wife that can now open the window.

That was my first thing I have done on the car since I got it about a month ago, just need to service it now.

Sorry to jump in here but am curious about the heatgun method for the bumpers and trim excuse my ignorance here but what exactly is the heatgun method ? I was going to try some bumper restore type stuff but the pics on here look very impressive so just asking what's involved for a novice many thanks

Fitted a new number plate light along with some new spire nuts (provided by my Dad who is a retired AA patrol, so has all sorts of useful stuff:)) to hold it in place. I also fitted a holder for my iPhone, not too hard as bracket already there and so didn't have to sit in very hot (black) FL for too long:)

Had new fuel filter fitted and rear brakes cleaned out by local specialist Friday, they also Test Booked it and confirmed two of the injectors are past their best:(

I took a video of the heat gun method however, it probably isn't great due o me filming with one hand and using the other on the gun. Failing that there are loads of videos on YouTube.

The back to black stuff is ok but only ever a tempory solution. I'm going to head gun the rest in a minute and then dress it with some gtehniq protectant to keep it looking that way for a long time.

took the v belt off today to try and find out where my woo ing noise is coming from between 2-3k rpm

test drove with little brakes (oops) but still did the noise so im thinking clutch/gearbox area next

Or the timing belts ? are they recent?

my job for next month is to fit new belts

the problem i have is if you sit in different seats it sounds like its from a different place

just odd its between 2-3k rpm and 2500rpm is the loudest no matter what gear or speed

Hi

First post but longtime reader! Today I just stood and look at her for a while then went inside as it was too hot to do anything else.

Very busy day yesterday. Changed the starter motor, discs and drums, calipers, front hubs, gummed and wrapped the exhaust, full engine flush, changed the oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, gearbox oil, coolant, air filter, fuel filter, pollen filter, oil filter, and a full valet inside and out.

I needed most of it done as Freebie has sat on the drive unmoved for 2 years.

On next payday she will get 5 new shoes, a new battery and new LPG spark plugs. Payday after that she will probably get a new LPG tank.

I have also ordered some material, batting and foam to make my own sunroof bag.

Future work - retro fit cruise control, connect the heated seat wiring. I see all the wiring is there for both, just not fitted/connected.

I have a few questions I am hoping someone here can help me with.

Watching Wheeler Dealers a few days ago, Ed China was using some kind of anti rust paint which he said changed the rust into good metal. Now I am not sure if thats possible and it may have been misconstrued in the editing process but does anyone know what it was? He never mentions the name of the stuff he uses. He has used it a couple of times on different cars now. He paints it on to stop the rust then eventually primes and paints over the top of it.

Second question! I have a 2001 51 reg 3 door GS. Does anyone know whether it should come with a roller cover for the rear loadspace or a rigid parcel shelf? I tried contacting Landrover but they could not tell me and told me someone would phone me back within the hour, 3 weeks ago...

Final question! I have a small rubber pipe running from a condenser (I think) into the top left side of the injector cover. Halfway along the pipe it splits using a T piece. The downward split of the T has a rubber pipe attached but it just sits in the engine bay, not connected to anything. Does anyone know what this is for or what it should be connected to? Its been like this for the 5 years I have had it. Its an LPG dual fuel conversion so it might have something to do with that but I cant find where the "spare" bit of pipe should be attached. Sorry, I dont have a digital camera so I cant take any pics which would probably help identify it a lot...

Thanks for a great forum btw, its already helped me a lot.

Ian
