Slowly working my way round the chassis and cross members with airline, brush, Jenolite, Dinitrol cavity wax etc. Taking my time over it doing it bit by bit.
Only found a couple of very small areas (so far) that need remedial, one I've rounded off and made into a drain hole, the other needs a 2x1 plate
Surprisingly clean and solid really. Had repaired the rear cross member a few years ago and it has remained good, no rust returning so pleased about that.
Once all done will give it a blast over with Dinitrol chassis paint

excellent! I have to do same soon...

I recently bought a Defender 90, supposedly a 300tdi, built by a Cubism master (possibly Pablo Picasso's 4th cousin twice removed the day after he was released the nut-hoose), painted in an interesting WWII Luftwaffe grey.
It had 2 small blue LED's mounted up by the driver/passengers ears as the courtesy lights.
About as much use as a chocolate teapot.

I bought some switches (after noticing they weren't fitted) only to find there are no strikers either.
So I search everywhere (eBay) and can't find them, only to discover that they are part of the upper door hinge, how cubist is that ....

So I made some, welded them on and now they need wiring in ...

Finished modifying my spare wheel bike rack. As it arrived, the arms were 10cm too wide for either of our (totally normal) bikes. Classic B**&^%rt part! I cut a thin cheese out of one of the arms at the bend, then welded and painted it up. The high viz paint at the ends is to stop me walking into it (again ) LOL. I've also moved it in towards the door and and bolted it to the plate. The spare wheel has been moved to the bonnet. Top tip - if you want a bonnet mount, it's about £250 cheaper from PA Blanchard than anywhere else. Their kit doesn't come with the replacement stronger bonnet stay, but that's only around £25.

I’ve done nothing apart from want to sell the bloody thing!

Remanufactured gearbox going in it at £1700 plus VAT and labour... I haven’t even seen the bill
for the rest of the work yet!!!

I put some engine oil in mine after leaving the sump to solidify a bit after the last atttempt had a sligh leak from the rear . Touch wood seems to be sealed this time.

Cheers

you aren’t the only one to say that!

It’s through Ashcroft, my old core is cracked, so unusable. Ballooned from £880 plus a VAT to £1700 due to needing a different core

Not sure what you mean by core?, but surely at that point you get a cheap second hand gearbox and send them that instead and save yourself a fortune.
What gearbox was it?

Cheers

MT82

when you take in to account buying a used one, couriering it to and fro, may as well just bite the bullet.

Oh, one of them newfangled gearboxes. Makes it a bit more forgiving on the price compared to a £5000 300tdi ...LOL.

Cheers

Isn't that bordering on 'Brave' as the gearbox pump likes a nice thin ATF. It may do the noo (in this balmy weather we have) but in the winter it'll not pump around as freely ?

i think he was talking about an engine, but lt95 and lt85 use a similar pump and use engine oil

Indeed, I was carried away by all the chat on gearboxes ... ah yes Duckhams Classic Q 20W-50, I remember that in my mates V8 101

Trial run, my new cluster with original dials in puma dash. Not sure if I'll get it powdered or a brushed metal

Looking good, I think i'd go for a crinkle finish or matt black/

BTW - Am still interested in your old dash ?
As i'm in Lanark I could easily pop over for a look ... if you want to sell ?

Texture or crinkle could be a good idea, sorry I was back at the sea when I got your reply and forgot to message back. The dash that come out is pretty knackered now, didn't realize how much of it was broken.

No worries. It's the top i'm after and the vents etc. The nobby that built the one I have put a Series dash top in it and nothing fits with the lower section (which is from a 200tdi). The binnacle and surround was well busted but i've bought a steel one and a new set of instruments etc.
