both the same on a non abs tdi
Just thinking James. If I've goosed the top bearing, do you think the bottom bearing will be goosed too?

EDIT
Hmmm, there'll be more weight on it, so it might not have had the same movement to wreck it?

top usually only goes when grease or oil gets low so bearing drys up ,i allways replace both and you should have very little preload unlike the earlier bush type

It's not long since I changed them. Could not enough preload cause them to fail? I remember at the time the gauge reading was good, but I was thinking there's too many shims in there. Couldn't feel any movement on it, but I was doubtful.

Checked/adjusted 200's tappets, one of those little job's that tends to be left until later. only one needed adjustment.:)

Doing the check takes perhaps fifteen min's including removing and replacing rocker cover. But you need to be able to turn the motor by hand to get the right position for each pair of rockers using the 9 system. I do this by turning the crank pully bolt. Easy enough on mine as I have electric fan and no cowling in the way.

Saw a bit of an oil leak under the 90, surprise surprise, found one of the pressed in metal "core" plugs on the vac pump has fallen out on yesterdays little bit of greenlaning. So will be getting a new vac pump to fit.

Cheers

Trial run of my puma dash..... Anyone else fitted one ? Any tips or things not to do would be much appreciated.

Sounds like you may need to check everything on your motor if the previous owner was that much of a cowboy.

Cheers

Ha yeh it has had a lot done to it, most of bolts and nuts replaced with s/s. Just started with a puma dash if you have any tips or hints "don't do it" isn't an option now
