Removed the roof as it’s failing apart

Well it only cost £50 ages ago & has not had an easy life(after
nephew smacked the roof on a tree learning to drive)

Fitted the new/second hand one I got a few months ago. Just need to shrink the length down a bit(easy job of remove/replace rivets)

We cut one down for the 2a when we had that, how are you going to do it?
I drilled the end rib off, moved it level with the end of the tub, riveted back on, cut off the excess and refitted the tailgate.

Greased the propshafts, changed engine oil and filters on my 90.
I know it's not a Defender but I took the rear seats and carpet out of the D2 to change the fuel pump when it arrives.

The old roof had front damage so moved the front rib.
This one I’m removing the rear rib. All the brackets etc are attached so makes my life easier.
And as a bonus it has a enclosed rear flap, removed the old mesh style so have a spare

Got stuck.. off to find a tractor

Started the rear roof cut. Now riveted into place. Just have a few nuts/bolts to find for the hinges(don’t trust the pop rivets on the original design)
Metal cutting next weekend.

After this mornings fun I have made a list of jobs I caused climbing out the motor.

Had a roll around on my back to see where most of the oil was coming from on the driveway. Seems to be coming from most areas.

Anywhere you’d be starting first or just usual defender life?

I'd wash it first, oil tends to get a bit windswept and interesting when driven on the road ...
Check from top down, if necessary, dust small areas with talc to try and track back to the source(s) ...

Put the end of that pipe into a bottle for a week & see how much oil is relesesd.( this pipe should not vent into the air. It should be onto the air filter)

Clean the engine as well.

Meaning leave a bottle on it with some tape / ties?

I’ve cleaned the top of the engine 3/4 weeks ago and it hasn’t gotten any dirtier.

I’ll give the underside a spray with some cleaner and give it a jet wash at the local garage. 👌🏻

Yep leave a tied bottle to it. A mist of oil will be produced

And what will it tell me Phill?

No oil, some oil, lots of oil?
it should mist into the air filter for burning back through the engine. Now if you have loads in the bottle after a few days that’s where your problem is.

The pipe should mist/breath from sump to crankcase so should not dump loads of oil.
People remove the pipe off the air filter as it has been known for the filters to block up with the excess oil.
(I do have my pipe like yours but it goes into a hole in the chassis so oil drops don’t fly round in the wind)
