TBH the pipe coming from snorkel to airbox looks like a cheap bit of plastic ducting so hoping Homebase/screw fix and the like can help with some sort of pipework that won't crush under pressure.

i even put cable ties round the same way , lol

owning a land rover is like having a jealous seek attention partner ;)

trying to think ref ur pipe, suppose u want a concentana one, along with some decent T bolt clamps , having rubber seals , etc

what size do u need as i may be able to find something online in the plumbing / heating section

also know there's some sites that sell all different shapes of silicone hoses and the pipes to go with them

offsets, elbows , etc , don't know what the comparison would be though from a kit to silicone hoses

but suppose with silicone hoses u know they won't allow water to get in , imagine u would req something like a small tube before the air filter to allow any ingress of water to drain away , not allowing it to enter the air filter / engine

assume u saw this, you've got a disco 1 haven't u

Ha ha that's very true. TBH I have so little free time to work on it that when I finally do get to go down the workshop I always seem to be in a rush and cause more problems than I solve :(

Looking through my phone and annoyingly I don't have a single engine bay picture showing the airbox and now I'm away for 3 days in the lorry.
It's either 2 or 2.5" plastic flexi pipe that comes out of the wing and goes into the front of the standard 300tdi airbox.

I wanna get the wing off and have a proper look at both the snorkel and the inner wing.

Currently it looks like it's been pushed on the airbox and tiger sealed in place.
Also the small breather pipe has been disconnected with a screw shoved in the end of it so that'll need investigating as well.

Silicon hoses would be a cracking idea, been drooling at silicon hose kits for the coolant system on eBay. Though might be a little out of budget.
 
Ooo yes Stu, those clamps could well do the trick.

Thinking with silicon hoses I'd probably need three 90's with two small straights between them and another longer straight piece to go along the inner wing possibly depending on where the plastic snorkel begins.
Plus metal joiners in between.
 
Or possibly get away with two 90's if it can start at the front of the airbox and go 90 towards the wing, 6-12" metal pipe.
Then 90 going through the inner wing with another straight pipe to the snorkel with a silicon joiner

yep, sleep when i can, back keeps me awake a lot ,

that's the trouble when someone else has had a go at it, takes longer to resolve all their bodge ups

bought a set of 3 x turbo intercooler silicone hoses, left hand one isn't too bad to fit

the right hand ones are supposed to take 5-6 hours to fit, as u have to take a lot off to get to them

another reason i bought the T clamps, so i can fit and forget about them then, got blue hoses , lol

Been looking on eBay and getting drawn in by all the hose colours you can have. :D

Know that feeling. My back still gives me grief.

Yes few bits that were clearly done in a rush, however fortunately stuff like the suspension upgrades were done properly so I can cope with a thrown together snorkel lol.

Yes have seen that. On my old truck I ran them all into a small manifold on the bulkhead then zip tied the one breather pipe up the outside of the snorkel.
 
Not mine but this gives you a rough idea of how mine is setup.
New pipework comes out the bottom and into the wing like the third picture. Just a lot messier.

I fitted a 200tdi air canister to my old disco and I am tempted to do it again to free up a bit of space.
Though as I have a van I'm tempted to fit duel batteries in the boot somewhere to free up space so not sure.

Had to come back to thenyard unexpetedly so took the opportunity to grab a couple of pictures

Airbox isn't actually secured as the pipe is in the way so want to sort that really.

Hoping maybe I can make a new hole in the wing just infront of where the airbox sits and run the pipe out the airbox, 90 right and straight into the inner wing then connect to the snorkel with another 90.

Discovered this morning that the rear door seems to have dropped by about 3mm so no longer closes properly without lifting it while closing.

Another job to do

see what u mean , wonder as u say using a metal pipe on the existing hole, or a U shaped one to bring it round

maybe using some rubber blank with silicone to seal the old hole if u go down that route

only got one airbox, but can see in the pic everything in the engine bay is really right

with the raised snorkel on mine i just have to remove the drivers side wing and utilise the air side inlet vent for the route of the snorkel , glad there's no holes to be drilled

often wondered if the grill that goes on the top of the snorkel should face forwards or backwards, lol

have u done many of these snorkels before

done mine in the week, had to open them, use a block of wood and trolley jack then went round each door in turn , also tightened up the striker plates so they were snug against the rubber seals

daft question , wondering if urs is the same plse , but noticed on my doors ive got two separate seals, one on the door and one on the body , wonder if this is to stop the ingress of water when off road

Have seen people use a blank on the existing hole at the front of the airbox (comes in a lot of kits). Think if I can get one of them and drill a new hole in the side of the airbox will be the best bet.
Assuming of course I can get it to seal properly, will have to be accurate with cutting a hole slightly smaller than the pipe then siliconing it up tight.

Still not sure what to do about the blanked breather pipe, should probably reattach it but need to see if it's also gonna be water tight.

Would like to replace the airbox to turbo pipe as well with a silicon pipe as it's prone to squashing under pressure but it also has a breather so guessing will need a custom pipe or a t-piece fitted inline.

Ah I get you, miss read the post saying it was intercooler pipes.

That's good then, not sure cutting dirty great holes out of a D3 would be fun lol.
Generally face forward, technically it creates a Ram-air effect, forcing more air into the airbox and therefor the turbo. However the likelihood of noticing that on a Disco is slim.
Mine stays facing forward until I'm laning or off roading. Then it's pointed backwards to avoid getting caught on trees and branches or getting leaves wedged down it or water from going through puddles too quick.

Have fitted two to my D1's that I can remember. Pretty straightforward as the kits comes with good instructions.

Indeed.

Am up at the campsite all weekend so will borrow a couple of strong people to help lift the door, with someone heavy sat on the back bumper (otherwise will just lift the suspension). Fortunately quite a lot of the service crew are also landrover owners (although one has just sold his 300tdi disco and bought a rather nice 2012 Toyota Hilux)

old plumbing trick , can sandwich pieces of rubber either side of the old hole, backed with some thin sheets of metal

then using some nuts and bolts to secure it all, first putting some silicone on the rubber as u squeeze it up tight with the nut and bolt

reminds me from my plumbing and heating days, using pipes , glands, fittings etc to get a waterproof seal

but like u say ref kits etc

not sure how the breather pipe is supposed to be set up, wonder if kit instructions may shed some light or another forum member

don't think ur too far away from me, but if u ever need a hand plse feel free to give me a shout
