My centre interior light works but one of the map light buttons has broke off. Got hold of a good casing so going to swop the bits around to make a good one today.
The plastic has Austin (British Leyland ) moulded on the reverse. Wonder what car that was on out of the Austin range?.

Missing all the middle pins on both sides

Same are used on defender arches .

in the petrol, the tensioner just needs a long spanner 16mm? i forget

Set off to work this morning, rev needle didn’t move for a solid 10s after ignition.. strange then BEEP BEEP. I thought I briefly saw alternator fault and gearbox fault before they disappeared. So engine off and grabbed multimeter.

12.69v engine off, 11.5v engine on. Bollocks.

Thankfully I have a spare alternator I picked up about a year ago. That’ll be my evening then!

Make sure your spare alternator has a regulator with a set point of 14.8 volts or you will have more problems

I fitted the uprated reg on your advice and had no issues. If @P38Seb finds it low then it can be replaced without stressing over the tensioner again without removing the alternator because I did it.
A mirror helped to see the bolt heads otherwise straightforward.
I can't find the link for the reg though, think it came from Ireland?

Did that already when I replaced the battery a few months ago. I’ll swap it over on to the new one if it’s different.

The bottomless money pit continues to eat my money or my credit card. New oil cooler fitted, then to change the thermostat, they needed a new housing as well. Now they need a new pipe from the housing as the internal seals are shot. Another couple of days off the road. Luckily I allowed a "substantial budget" for the job having paid around £6k for the car a couple of months ago for unknown problmes. I've used a local non-specialist garage this time rather than my LR indy for comparison. I suppose the indy knows what to order and the buggeration factor as they're doig them all the time. I've also come to the conclusion that at about 125,000 miles these cars are designed for the mega-rich to throw away and get a new one for tax reasons.

The next expense will be suspension arms and bushes, then brakes, the usual items that wear out, but it's still a nice car.

Usually just a large screwdriver and slowly and gently ease the pressure off.

Standard alternator is 13.8V so guessing replacement will be. 14.5V is fine.

I'm a bit nervous of cocking something up!

Not done one before But I did have Wammers and you lot watching my back. Job was top notch apart from top trim due to my blacksmiths touch. Didn’t really matter as it was sealed in perfectly all the way around. No screen eggspurt could have put that much time/effort in, especially with the prep. Leaving it til mid summer made everything a lot easier.

I was planning on leaving it till May, although the crack gets bigger every day. I think the glass gets hot from the blower being on demist all the way to work and then the cold air in the yard is shocking it.

Mine was cracked from rolling it over way before I even joined LZ. Got away with it for years and years but garage told me not to bring it back with the windscreen again. If your insurance will cover it that may be your best option, presuming they send a professional and not have a nightmare scenario like Flossie. My insurance would have charged me about the same so decided to do it myself ensure it was a proper job

Pop to Halfords ask them to check, then if 'no, ask the guy to run some of the superglue stuff along it and please drill the ends to stop the spread ... for beer tokens of course ...
