Black sludge suggests bacterial growth, in which case you will, at the very least, need to add anti bacterial additive to the tank, worst case the tank may have to be cleaned. The black sludge would certainly account for some of your prproblems.
I am confident it isn't from my car. Just took off pre filter hose to test in tank flow rate, 300mil in 10 seconds. All perfectly clear. Took off hose just as it enters the FIP, also clear. My guess, I'm sending the pump and injectors to get tested, is the pump was contaminated when I received it. That contam has probably washed down stream into my injectors and is causing my problems. Won't be able to get them sent away until next week as I need to move the car for long term storage and can't do that until the weekend.
I'll theory in some anti bac additive before I move her so it has time to wash through the system, but given how clean everything else is, I really don't think it's come from my car.

I'll grab one of our fuel test kits from work and test the fuel anyway, just to confirm cross the Ts and dot the Is.

If the contamination was in your replacement pump, that's more evidence against the supplier. Good to know the tank etc is clean.

No snow here in East Kent, no snow yesterday either, well, there was, but it was big wet flakes that melted upon landing. My Rangie is still with the local garage to change the oil cooler. Should have been ready Friday, but they found a couple of pipes to replace, phoned them today, needs a new thermostat housing so now maybe tomorrow!

I needed the car for work tonight, so now my partner's going to give me a lift to work in her 63 Disco! she'll also come out for a cold ride in my rail replacement bus from Gravesend to Gillingham. Got that job all week!

As for diesel bug, the black stuff in the fuel, they seem to have changed the fuel over the last couple of years so I hardly ever hear of it happening these days. We both tend to get through a full tank of diesel every couple of weeks, so the bug wouldn't have time to manifest itself. In our 2 vintage buses, they've not had it either despite being laid up for long periods. However, a mate who parks his AEC Mandator in our storage shed had problems with his fuel. A couple of treatments seem to have go rid of it. e takes the loors out once a week to keep it moving.

It never rains but it pours. Got in the car to drive home and there was a horizontal crack in the windscreen above the windscreen wiper. Well that wasn't there this morning. Crack is on the inside, not the outside. Don't think it is MoT fail but even so. PITA.

Recommended firm to replace it and any idea of cost?!

I think heated screens are mostly £100 excess on insurance now

I'd need to check with mine. It says glass covered and I have protected NCD but no idea if there's an excess on the glass.

That aside, what's the cost if you don't go through the insurance?!

Yikes! £680 on the one UK site I found that actually gives an online quote.

Blimey! That's a fair proportion of the value of the car!

As long as the crack isn't in the line of swept area vision it should be ok. A crack on the inside is less of a problem, try getting it repaired, it's a lot cheaper. These days you can have a crack right across the screen and in the swept are providing the crack doesn't damage the wiper blade and doesn't affect the structural integrity of the screen or makes it likely to become detached.

This change was made to help the bus industry who were suffering buses of the road post the "b" word as the big panoramic screens are mostly made in Belgium and cost from £2k upwards! Plus fitting fees etc...

£75 on mine. That's about 10% of the cost but it does count as a claim against your NCD.
That's a bit odd. It's not an accident more an incident. Unless they are expecting provision of licence plate of vehicle that kicked up the stone, so they can sue the vehicle owner. Or going to sue the county that maintains the road. Unless they expect you to either never drive , or to have someone sweep the road in front of you, they can't honestly make it your fault. 🤦‍♀️ I would complain to the Ombudsman if they try putting it against your NCD.
