I doubt they put excess fixings on. Heat cycles might warp it over time and then you're looking at a new manifold. Sooner rather than later you're going to have to tackle it. Can you get at it with the wheel-arch liner removed?
Me? No, I have barely time working on it. She's off getting the ignition timing sorted at a garage anyway over the winter, and going by how bad the manifolds look, I'd might just add that to the bill.

I was, again, ready to sell it. Boe there are two trips on the horizon, Tunesia and Iceland, potentially starting with Tunesia next November. So she got a new purpose for at least another two years. Gives me time to sort out the interior, the paint job budget will go to the engine.
 
Brakes flushed through and it needed it. Caramel coloured BF and some air. However, the ABS is still kicking in when braking. Attention has turned to a cheap aftermarket ABS sensor as the issue.
 
Spent the day deciding whether or not to tackle the non working heated seats in my lovely P38. It's the last thing left ( excluding paintwork ) after a ton of work restoring her. Still can't decide if worth the effort .....
The heated seats on my P38 have never worked in the thirteen years that I have owned the car as I have never bothered fixing them. I have had several other cars with heated seats & never bothered using them. Years ago when a colleague got a new car with heated seats he exclaimed that switching the heated seats on felt just like you had p!ssed yourself.

Only ever noticed mine if it was truly freezing! Even then they took a while.. am i warming the seat or is the seat warming me?

Sooo... The new exhaust is installed! Not leaking, as far as I can tell, and it looks great! Once I'm done with my, dare I say well deserved, beer, I'll clean her up a bit. Tomorrow carbs, lights and checkong of the missing paper work and findings from the last MOT / TÜV.

Just one thing: One of the bolts on the exhaust manifold lost his thread, and the bolt is attacjed to the manifold. Right hand side, so accessibility sucks. Any ideas? Right now the exhaust is attached with two bolts, and for good measure I'll apply some exhaust sealant to the joint. Long term so, I don't like that, at all. And I am affraid recutting the thread would require, at least, to

remove the new exhaust. Are there any repair kits, self-cutting bolt heads or something?

Any way, I am quite happy for my first day of vacation work!

If to pipe, then make or adapt 2 bracket sections that you can bolt or clamp across the joint, and then wire securely around the pipe so they can't drop away at all.
 
He's spent the last week as our daily driver, after having my window smashed in and being punched in the face by a gang of yobbos on illegal bikes while visiting the brother in law last weekend in the everyday car.

Behaved except one eas pressure switch not changing state error, first time in months.
No ABS sensor issues to feed to the speedo error, and eas changes correctly above and below 50 so becm is reading the right speed there. Increasingly thinking it may be something mechanical or dirt related in the speedo itself.

Manifold to pipe. I like the idea of clamps, a quick suoerficial search for new exhaust manifolds either returned NIL, tubular ones not compatible with the exhaust or prices above budget. We'll see, she's due for a garage visit anyway to sort out the timing issue.
 
changed the axle oil serviced the gearbox.

moved her around the yard and took a pic in the setting sun.

can't wait to get this old motor on the road..

I changed the auxiliary belt. It took pretty much all day! I still can't get over how much had to come out to get to it. Tensioner was cream crackered and what a joy the stretch belt is to install (not too bad actually but I don't love it)

Had to sit and consider my life choices at one point.

So my funky steering turn right stiff off center turn returned, i sat and thought have i had enough is it just time to sell then at 160k its probably not even worth the money or hassle selling,
Also wondering how long the gearbox/torque converter will last being the zf6, it has been serviced and had a fresh valve body and solonoids and isnt showing signs of hassle,

Did start browsing for another to run about in so i could just park mine up and drop both subframes and have them blasted and treat the underside before the one day i look and it isnt silver anymore,

Then i decided to up the budget a bit and found some nice 4.4tdv8s and started my cogs ticking of i wonder if id be happy with going back too diesel,

Then i gave up with any of my random ideas or thoughts and ordered a steering rack for it as its the only steering part not changed now and its mine and past steering glitch im actually quite fond of it and started making an order up for my 5.0 v8 swapped 3 series so i can stop myself of any idea of buying another RR for now 😅
