Spent half the day trying to find someone who'd replace the FIP. It's leaking out the back where the O-Ring goes... turns out nowhere I have called (various garages from Wiltshire to Dorset) will do FIP replacements, or won't touch P38s (some Landy specialists). Which is insane. Even tried BMW specialists because it's a Beemer lump, but once I told them it was in a range rover they wanted nothing to do with it.
I am hesitant to do the rear seal because I don't trust myself. Which is my own fault really, as I've happily done the other seals. But I fear my hand is being pushed a little now. I wouldn't be as concerned if it wasn't my only car, but I really can't afford to screw it up.

Sure I've seen a how to on one of the sites on changing the O ring without removing the pump. Try a google search

I've got the guide and studied it a few times, I used it when I did the main body seals. Issue is the guide is for a Disco where there is a lot more accessibility since the FIP is higher up on that engine. There are so many accessories in the way. Takes someone with much more limber hands than me just to try and get all 6 fuel pipes off the back of the FIP.

Do you know any one with the locking pins and dial gauge then can be done at the kitchen table if you take off the pump

I don't unfortunately, not in this part of the world anyway. I'll have to dig into my wallet and buy some new tooling. Always makes the wife happy.
The pin sizes are in tech section by Wammers if you have anyone local to make them for you

I found the other week that on a long drive, my AC was lacklustre especially compared to my 3.6l which has always been excellent in the AC department. It's cold but not properly cold so I've had my 'go to guy' out this afternoon to have a look. He weighed the gas that came out, it had 210g in the system and should have been 730 +/-10g. I was honestly surprised it worked at all but the weight of the refrigerant my not be completely relevant to the sensed pressure in the system which would still allow it to "work" so to speak

Everything else checked out and I have no record of any work having been done to the air con so it could be that it was just natural seepage over the years.

Going to put a bobble hat on and go for a drive later. Very pleased with a nice cold car again.

My feeling is that if that seal has failed and it is still on its original FIP then it is time to bite the bullet and get a refurbed unit from Diesel Jones.

Engine oil cooler and pipes .
2.5 diesel ,
who ever said it can be done without taking out the battery tray/box is a liar ! Ooor , if they did the cooler didn't go back in with all the bolts and bits they must have cut out . And I wouldn't want anything to do with anything they'd had their paws on !

Dug out my air jack to deal with a very suspicious puncture - a panel pin perfectly in one of the sipes in the tyre...

I too like an ice old lager after a day working in the heat, but it's still no good for dehydration, I drink lots of water for that.
If I'm doing a bit of gardening I pop indoors occasionally for a break from the heat and, have a cold one but, not too many especially, if I'm on top of the ladder cutting the hedge.

Had a strange one with my RHD P38 on our 35km run to the shops. It suffered a gradual loss of power to the point where to maintain 50mph I had to hold it in third gear. Parked up, did the shopping and the car ran normally on the run home. No faults recorded. The only work I have done is to replace the leak off pipes.

Never touched the battery or tray when i did mine, seem to remember taking the grill and slam panel off and the intercooler out
