Yeah, they’re OK I suppose. But I thought you meant the sprung tabs like on my Commander-in-Chief’s little Audi convertible; they adapt to the size of the beverage. First world problems x 1 million when the turbos could give up the ghost at any moment!

Why did he call you that?! It’s only the polish I know of. Some mates used to call me “Brass” back in the day, which took on a different meaning when I got a bit older😳
 
Changed the rear left airspring today and it was a struggle, worse than the rear right I did 2 days ago.
The clips pulled out easy and the old spring released quite quickly from the top mount but it all went down hill from there. I struggled on the other side trying to get the top 'home' enough to get the top clip in but I did it, this side was having none of it. I even used a finger air file to clean the spring mating face on the chassis so there was no rust, nothing to stop the top mount protruding enough to get the clip in but it still wouldn't go. I then cut the top off the old Dunlop spring and tried that...no problem, loads of clearance on the top to get the clip and the airline back in. A bit of measuring showed that the airline and the clip apertures were a mill or two lower on the cheapy britpart ones. Found the issue.
The only solution I could think of was to reduce the thickness of the top of the plastic mount where it touches the underside of the chassis slightly.
That, obviously, worked and the rest was straightforward.
These springs are britpart made in China and sell for around £60 each not the britpart ones that are dearer but are Dunlop made and marked as such.
Otto's ones were Dunlop marked, can't remember which seller but I think they were around £100 each or £160 for the pair each end. Obviously we did both pairs as he sagged everywhere. Fronts were nice and easy in hindsight, just one awkward to remove clip on each.
New ones were all plastic on the ends, old ones were plastic top and aluminium base, which had corrosion welded itself to the bottom plate on the axle and corroded the pins solid.

Oh yeah, I had those springy tabs in my A6. Kinda the other end of the spectrum I had to psyche myself up to wrestle a travel mug out of em 😅

I think it came from 'brass neck' tbh, black country tho so god knows

F@ck me. Not so long ago they were £200 for all four if they were Dunlops.
 
Must have been a long time ago, 5 years ago the cheapest I could find was £240 for a set.

Might have been ten years ago. That was from Island-4x4 but I refused to deal with them after the aircon condenser fiasco. Never been back.
