If i understand correctly, getting the radiator off is a 'front off' job.. didn't look like a quick job.. assume it's never been done, yes will have egr, think that's also hard to remove
I have done the aircon condenser on the Td6 L322, not a difficult job. No idea on the newer ones.

and they had a directive to reduce the space in engine bay so only a small child could reach anything that needs regular maintenance.

Committee: "What size is the engine? . . . . . ahh, ok, just add an inch for the bodywork."

To be fair a 10 year old probably has more idea than me how to fix it and the wages would be cheaper.

I'm not used to the concept of tracking a potential fault by the presented symptoms though.. it's the wrong way up for me. I suppose it's designed for 'semi skilled' fitters who don't have a clue
Actually diagnosing a fault using modern diagnostics is a skill set in itself. It points you to a starting point but it never gives you the answer!

EGR will be a ballache, but well worth it to save that "gum" (which is effectively cutting paste - it's moisture and soot of varying sizes) getting elsewhere... Volvos with excessive EGR quantities have issues like the cylinder head getting scored and needing a rebuild after 35k miles. Go on, ask me how I know!

"Oh, there's a bit of space down there where you could get to bits... ah, just stick some plastic with sharp edges down there, that'll keep people from working on it!"

It knowing how to read it
Iv had it heaps of times with bmw petrols common as anything with bmws,
system too lean bank 1 and 2, and random missfires on all 6 cylinders, then people load the parts cannon and assume lambdas or mafs coils or spark plugs and then must have a vacuum leak,
Take a step back get on live data, lambdas are reading so why do they need changed? Bank 1 and 2 wont pull a lean code for fun,
Maf readings are within spec so why did you change it?
people load the parts cannon again and assume it needs injectors,

Iv replaced all these parts and these codes aren't going why?

Get on live data its opening the injectors for longer then normal conditions Its giving a lean condition instead of a rich condition? Yes
Lambdas and maf are working and reading and responding to changes in engine rpm Yes?

Ok so your cars telling you its not getting enough fuel have you checked fuel pressure? 'No there isnt a code for it'

Check it and find out a 50.8psi system is only pumping 30psi at the fuel rail, Takes all of 15mins and is cheeper to get it diagnosed then spend 300+ quid on the parts cannon for fun,

Another example,
My girlfriends dads mini 1.6d with the pug dv6 engine, broke down 50miles from home I got a pal in the city to tow him off a busy road and have a quick check before i head in to it as it was a 100mile round trip with the trailer regardless,
It had a crank sensor fault, and an egr fault, okay no biggie 18 quid for a crank sensor and a 10mm socket with me il take one with me incase and if the egrs a problem unplug it and get it home in limp mode if needs be,
Got in went to start it no tacho movement while cranking, okay il throw crank sensor on, no change so throw it on trailer and take it upto workshop, after 30mins poking about noticed the crank sensor wasnt getting voltage neither was the egr or cam sensor or an intake boost sensor, or intake flap,
A check on ecu fuses showed that it was getting reverse polarity earth through 2 fuses,
After a hour of stripping the ecu tray and bits out the way
Turned out a mouse had been nibbling at the loom under the battery and had a nest there, And because of the short the ecu wouldn't turn one of its internal realys on,
4 hours later few wires in situ repaired and running still with its original crank sensor and egr valve,

Took the old girl for a green laning expedition over Salisbury Plain in December. I have been trying to post some pictures in the off road forum but wasn’t able to load any. I’ll try again soon.

Try reducing the resolution so the file size drop below 1MB. Irvan View is free and pretty decent.

reading up on the L322.. from the horses mouth...
The Range Rover’s Intelligent Power Management System ensures the alternator is charging the battery (and drawing energy from the engine) at the most efficient times, such as when the vehicle is coasting rather than accelerating. The electrical system is scaled such that the battery only needs to be charged to 80 percent, reducing the workload on the alternator. It also moderates the charge rates in cold weather when the battery is less able to cope with high charge rates, increasing battery life for lower cost and environmental impact.
Why would they do this? makes no real world sense

Makes no sense at all.

Fixed the leak off pipes, found there is another leak.:( It cannot see exactly where it is coming from but it's somewhere on the FIP. Looks like I may have to fit my spare which is an unknown quantity, may do the O rings first.

Maybe you should stop talking to horses cos it’s obviously not making any sense:p:D.

Saw a L322 stuck on exit of roundabout today and offered to help as all good Land Rover owners do (my god I've needed enough help over the years). Bonnet was open and obvious going nowhere. Traffic cops needed the blockage clearing clearing as traffic backing up. Tow rope out and pulled it 10yrds to clear exit and get roundabout clear. From a distance the RR didn't look too bad, 04 plate TDV6. Then up close my god had this poor beast been mistreated. Inside a right mess, had the Icarsoft with me so offered to plug it in BUT alas the obd socket was hanging down and not connected to anything. Owner had bonnet up and said he thought it had run out of diesel as filter was empty. The filter he showed me was the little egr (presume it was egr as that what is on P38) one on the pipe that comes out of the rocker cover. Engine wouldn't turn over so tried my 1000cc lithium booster which spins the P38, nothing. Son turns up and he has about as much know how as dad. Then saving grace I'm in RAC he says, call them I says and offer my condolences and leave. 4 hrs later its still there, 41/2 hrs later its on a transporter Oh that poor beast it was plainly obvious it had had been neglected and mal treated. Parting shot from son, Nice P38 there mate bugger to maintain though aren't they. If I weren't so badly I would have dropped him
