Intank fuel pump has been dying for a few days,
Random Fuel inj fault warnings,
Pulling up the digital levels i could see that it was registering 20+ liters in left saddle and 0.3 in the right,
So id throw diesel in and anymore then 9L would get stuck in left side,

Being just like bmws The system relys on pressure on the return side to push it over too the intank pump side of the tank

Decided earlier in the week i was going to mot my discovery next week and use that for a while while i give the rangie some attention,

A cost saving solution for a short term fix was to pull the original fuel sender out and split it and pulled the actual pump motor out and used an in tank pump motor from a 320d i pulled apart earlier in the year,

The motor fitted the housing and works fine,

Checked with digital reading both sides read near enough 0.0L which they did,

Filled give or take 10L back in through the normal filler gauge registered 7.5L happy with that

Now to see if it was working properly i turned the motor off pulled the fuel pump relay and put 5L in the left side it registered 4.5L

Got a helper to fit the fuel pump relay and start the motor and watched it shift the 5L over too the right side, 13L showing on the right side,

Currently done 65miles and no injection fault warnings,

Il be fair i was starting to get a bit fed up of niggly issues this year but to be fair it was probably never designed with the thought that at 200,000 miles it would be still towing still getting used as a work motor or doing mega miles a week
 
Had a gearbox service today. No issues with it currently but as I bought the car from an auction, they bin all the paperwork with the previous keeper details on it so it may have been done but I'm not going to risk it. I can happily report that I'm almost £600 lighter and it drives EXACTLY the same. Perhaps if I really concentrate it is a little bit smoother but that's the placebo effect I think.

Just for fun of course, as I was going out this morning to get the service done, started the car and it was misfiring for a minute or two on idle. Also did it again this evening so I expect I have injector trouble on the horizon (or probably much closer than that). The car does smoke more than I'm used to. I haven't had a diesel for some years before this so I thought it was probably the way they are but now I'm less convinced and as the economy is so bad (struggles for more than 27mpg on a 150 mile gentle run) I'm thinking that I've got a drippy injector or poor spray pattern on all of them. Great.

Last week I got round to filming a bit of a story with the car and how I came by it. If you are really stuck for something to do, by all means have a watch but I could equally recommend cleaning the dishwasher drain for similar entertainment. :).

Mine came from auction well i actually bought it off the lad in the workshop next too mine while he was on his way home with it from the auction,
I got lucky and I had a binder of receipts in it
 
Got my starter motor apart and testing the commutator.. every single contact is showing a short, ie the 180 opposite and side by side test.. is it completely knackered or am i doing something wrong?
 
Took him to the garden centre cafe, the BILs to sort out and retrieve some garden bits, then home. First run for 3 weeks, took ages to get the suspension inflated properly as forgot to pull the delay relay last time I parked him.
Then after 5 miles got the beeps and 35mph max. Nanocom to the rescue, unknown fault code, plus 2 for each sensor out of range. After a few minutes and 4 attempts it cleared all the faults and was fine after.
Speedo is accurate to 25, sluggish for a bit, then consistently 5mph slow up to about 75 when it comes back into synch.
