Third day in a row with a half dead battery. Covered all usual voltage leak suspects and now looking like battery on way out, after standing for a year after last year's engine work . And.. now getting tricky to start with a low fuel tank, (anything less than a 1/4 tank .).. ###k me.. does it ever end!!?

If the battery was left for a year without a maintenance charger, it's not surprising if it's fecked.
 
Well, after going to book an mot last Thursday for today it decided to breakdown on the way home so needed towed home with my brothers Jeep WJ, suspected it was the crank sensor as it just died and the gearbox said it wasn't getting a rpm signal on the nanocom, so ordered one from Rimmers, came this morning, fitted in half and hour then straight round for the mot.
And its PASSED!!!!!!!
no advisiories or what ever they are called now, just the usual comment about Land Rovers having as much oil on the outside as the inside!
Not bad for a 1996 137k mile car.

It can be a fail over here if there is a lot of oil on the under side, I have to wash mine off before the MOT:(

Fecking thing wouldn't start so had to go to the restaurant in the dirty old 90 instead. The Doris was not best pleased.
Oh well, at least I know what I shall be doing tomorrow. Usual suspects would be Fuel shut-off/lead from pre-heat relay to glows. I can hear the relay latch over so don't think it's that. Maybe fuel issues. I'll get a meter on it in the morning.
On the up-side if I can't drive it then my suspension is no longer a problem.;);)
 
Not a great idea to use jubilee clips on plastic pipe. Proper fuel line clips won't crush it. ;)
Not the best solution i agree, i did only tighten them enough to to stop the pipes coming apart when pulled. It has stayed nice and dry though!:D
 
Had a bit of a result.... Bought a Bosch S5 020 just under 5 years ago.....started to have a few issues, was cranking over slowly, died a few times when left a couple of days etc (thought I had a drain to begin with, but all appears Ok)
Took battery with receipt to euro car parts (22nd Nov 18 is the end of 5 year warranty)
They exchanged it straight away no questions asked and handed me over a £200 new battery!
Fitted new battery but its a big if a sod as it's a big old battery in a tight space then fired her up and all sorted. Result !!
 
Spent a couple of hours looking for the cause of the EAS problem on my project car and taking photos of fuel lines etc. Looks like the EAS problem was a corroded connector on the front O/S height sensor, so my original guess of the rear N/S sensor being duff was wrong. Couldn't finis the job as the battery went flat on my laptop, so guess what I will be doing tomorrow?:).
 
Had a look at the starting problem on Buttercup.
First off getting 12 + volts at glowplugs so that's OK. Tried the meter on the feed to the stop solenoid, 12+ volts. Cracked the banjo bolt on the fuel filter and gave the lift pump a pump or two, diesel being forced out quite nicely. Looks like the stop solenoid then.
After cutting a lump off an old spanner managed to get the little sod out, flashed 12 v across it and nothing. Took the one off the spare engine I have, tried that and that dosn't work either:mad::(:mad::(:mad:, I guess the engine last ran about 5 years ago so perhaps to be expected.
Paddocks have one (maybe) for next to £150,:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: just got one by searching the Bosch number for £51 delivered tomorrow with luck.

Good move with the "spanner", I worked out that a gentle, (GENTLE..!!!!!!!..) tap with a punch on the edge just breaks the seal and turns it out.

Yeah I was absoloutely gob smacked when I saw the quoted prices, then I googled the Bosch number on the old one (0330001015) and it seems they are used on all sorts of manuf's cars, and much much cheaper than pricing up with the Land Rover part number.

What hurt most was that the similar looking one (I'm sure there's a difference!) for the Disco/ Classic looked the same but cost about £20!!
