You need a good screwdriver and some patience! ;)

It's just a jigsaw, quite an easy one ;)

Putting the bonnet in service mode helps
am I right in thinking the plastic trim from the A pillar along with the trim from the bottom of the screen needs to come off?? :(

You don't need to remove the A panel trim as the lower screen trim will slide out easily from behind it once all the screws are removed. I replaced them all with new SS screws too. Did mine recently and with care taken it all comes off easy albeit time consuming. I bought a new type improved filter from Bearmach ( £9 ) which is a far better quality than the JLR type that rots away. If you have a set of those plastic trim removal tools they will help. DONT use a metal screw driver as its not worth the risk.

Spent an hour at the side of the A64 last night. It appears there is an issue with the fuel gauge reading height or the fuel transfer from side to side when it gets below 1/4 tank. Thankfully, a nice man in an orange van brought 10 litres of unleaded and it limped home complaining of air in the tubes. Haven’t had chance to check out yet but if that’s all it is I’m happy because it felt like total engine failure at the time doing 70 mph alongside a truck. We will see.
Tricky :(

That looks a scary place to stop! Shame you couldn't get on the grass

Believe me I tried six times to restart but every time I selected drive it stalled. About 10 minutes after the pic it was dark and people rushing home came a bit close. All you can do is stand upwind and pray. We called the bobbies but the RAC got to us first within the hour and we got on our way with an escort. All I could get was 50 mph but everything else was good. I’m going out to see how she is soon, hopefully, the air bubbles have passed through now. Just need to investigate the gauge discrepancy.
Tricky.

My Xj12 had a fuel gauge like that, at 1/4 it was stone dead empty ;)

Found that out the hard way!

Hi all, I can report all is back to normal, filled the tank and taken for a drive. Three stop and start procedures later the engine light has extinguished and full revs are available once more. That said I’m still going to sit down to trawl LZ and the wider web for answers. I had the 1980 Daimler fuel transfer valve issue on a past car but that was a simple fix, changed the valve. Not sure my SC will be so simple.
Tricky:)
