I will be at the Prestwood steam rally (I had better be or there will be no water on site, unless they can get some other mug on site to do it) again this year, it is a good event hopefully it will not be as hot this year was a bit warm last year especially if your playing with steam engines.

It was more a camping weekend Last one had maybe 20 or 30 vehicles? They had to hire the field, portaloos, the burger vans etc. It didn't cost a lot. Way cheaper than Billing in Northants.

Think Prestwood is £10 or £15 for the day. The Muddy Ducks in Aylesbury do a Billing weekend every so often for members where they get discount on the camping but it is still somewhere between £25 and £50 for the weekend, I think.

Things I need to do in the summer, new side steps, (rusting away) fit a USB socket (to do soon) and new boot button (mod) change the rocker cover gasket (doing it Wednesday) the rear window wiper needs changing again (I'm sure I did it 6 months ago) the rubber perished doing the MOT!!!! clean the engine
Sounds about right. £10 for me and the lad. A bit more if the missus agrees to come along. I really don't understand her reluctance to come and stare at old machinery all day.

There's a cable that comes over the passenger side p.filter that's not connected to anything, anybody know what it is?

Finished fitting the 14.7 volt alternator I reconditioned to my project P38. Not so easy on the LHD car, steering box is in the way as is a pipe from the power steering pump. Plus LR in their wisdom fitted an alternator with an extension to the rear cover to house the wires that makes it nigh on impossible to get a spanner on the lower bolt. Part of the upper bracket has to be unbolted to get the alternator out. In another bit of bad design, the heads of the bolts are so close to the FIP mounting that it's not possible to get a socket on them. Luckily they came undone with an open ended spanner. Shame I didn't have any socket head bolts of the right thread to replace them.

I replaced the plenum filter with aluminium mesh, the foam lasts less than 3 years here.

Any idea what the cable is for?
Looks like it’s broke off somewhere close have you looked around? Close by.
I will take a look tomorrow to see if I have something like it. Unless someone can pinpoint it.
Would it actually reach the bonnet when open?

I'll have a look tomorrow, I have seen the same on my scrapper, but don't remember it on the other two.

There is a sort of similar lug beside the EAS box that it will reach but there's already one on there?

Thanks but it's the look of the photo. It's just oil, when it rolled over the dipstick fell out and the oil went everywhere in the engine bay. Still cleaning it out everywhere I touch. I will wipe it down tomorrow for you
