You need to check that the power to the plugs turns off when the timer has timed out and certainly when the engine has started.
Thanks for that, yes checked that after your previous suggestion. Power goes out after timer goes full cycle, this is approx 10 seconds after dash light goes out if key is still in glow position. So from dead cold a total of about 20 seconds, dash light being illuminated for about half that time.
 
Drove it. What a lovely car she is when running nicely. If the UK government carries on this war on diesel I'm going to have to swap the lump though. Might have to keep an eye out for a scrap manual 4.0.

Serviced the lpg as the filters have never been done since it was fitted 46k miles ago......should be every 8k or yearly which ever is soonest.

Be careful handling filters etc that run LPG, there is often a dark coloured residue inside fittings etc, a mate of mine who is a chemical engineer told me this residue is known in chemical circles as "Heavy Ends" and is highly carcinogenic. Wear suitable gloves etc.

Yep wore glove but mainly to prevent freeze burns from the LPG, depressurised by removing the liquid filter housing and replaced the filter the other filter gas side is contained in a plastic canister
 
Took her into the workshop to replace the prop shaft UJs and hoped I could've patched up what the MoT Test centre said was a "minor leak" from the exhaust. The UJs were easy enough to change, the "minor leak" wasn't exactly minor enough. it has so many holes in it, it'd be a terrible colander, let alone an exhaust. Slightly annoying as it is only a 3 or 4 year old genuine LR exhaust. I wanted to swap it for a stainless unit, but I also expected it to last longer than this.
Tested the VC while it was in the air, and unfortunately it is seized, very tempted to just run it as RWD until I can get a new unit in the new year.

While it was on the ramp, I figured I'd borrow some oils from MT and top up a few bits and bobs. Doesn't do anything to fix the VC or the exhaust, but it made me feel better.

I need to crack the dash off and replace the blown bulbs too, it is annoying not being able to read the info centre.

Take it back if genuine Land Rover as it must be a fake. No way a diesel exhaust should fail that fast.

If it's been used a lot on short journeys and salty roads, 4 years is not bad IMO. I replaced the exhausts on both mine with Double S stainless.

That was the worst section, but I got a full cat back about 4 years ago, and I need that same section replacing again, so going stainless this time.

I do a lot of miles, and have driven on a lot of salty roads and it is probably my fault for not jet washing the bottom properly over winter, I just blasted the arches and sills. Besides, at 4 years old, I suspect Land Rover would tell me to suck a dick.

Land Rover's exhausts must be going downhill then. My last original one I had lasted close to 10 years.
 
Today I arrived back in Australia and after a 43 day cruise so no jet lag this time. Put the battery back in my disco and started fist hit after 9 months,but will be back on a boat to UK end of febuary so wont put many miles on it this time. The trip back to Tillbury is 73 days going through Suez this time it was the panama last time. Its called SKI spending kids inheritance the problem is i have no kids but do have 2 range rovers a DISCO 3 and a series 3 landrover. and they dont need inheritance they get enough spent on them as is
 
Last night going out (to a French lesson - o la la) the fecking thing refused to start, turned over normally, just nothing. Had to take the 90 instead, the doris was not amused, "what's wrong with it this time?", I wasn't amused either "it wont start - duh" (that's a months worth of brownie points down the swanny then)

Had a look this morning, it would appear the glow plug relay/timer is duff:mad::mad: new one ordered for €70 delivery Weds with luck, Craddock wanted just south of £220, someone else wanted over £400. What is it with these prices??
