During normal driving, normal speed for the gear.I'd be surprised if it is locked during shifts and it is likely to be speed dependent but what do I know!
Yes there must be some slip during a gear change or the gearbox would be punished

Maybe température controlled differences in operation?silly question.. i know the answer.. on the 8 speed, the torque converter only slips in the first 2 gears and is locked for 3-8?
driving today in 4th, about 35mph (maybe a touch more) i think, revs dropped to idle when i took my foot off the accelerator. locked up as normal a bit later when things warmed up
knackered TC?
Pretty sure it didn't do it last winter. Not 100% though as my memory is rubbish.Maybe température controlled differences in operation?![]()
Good question kermitizn.Pretty sure it didn't do it last winter. Not 100% though as my memory is rubbish.
Pretty sure it shouldn't free wheel though at 35![]()
i think the fact the oil is contaminated is a hintGood question kermitizn.![]()
It is contaminated ?i think the fact the oil is contaminated is a hint
You may have been just below the lock up threshold speed for the gear?During normal driving, normal speed for the gear.
Yes there must be some slip during a gear change or the gearbox would be punished
Stand by to open your walleti think the fact the oil is contaminated is a hint
God, don't drive down there... Just make a call with a sobbing sound to your voice.... "p-p-please sir c-c-can I have some more"visit the bank manager
I feel bad now bitchin about the struggle I've had removing the tank to fit the new pump that's been on the shelf since just before Xmas.yes oil was contaminated when checked in december.. dont know what with though.
its likely that new box/tc will be needed as if the tc is failing then the resulting metal containment will knacker the rest of the box even if it seems 'ok' for now
new TC now will be false economy as the oil (and everything else) is already contaminated and worn as a result.. it wont get any better.. so save my pennies until it gets worse and becomes more of an urgent need
i'm guessing circa £5K for new box/tc fitted (i'm not doing that)
maybe a new oil cooler too as that will be full of crap
i could do a full flush and clean, but gut says its past that point
I'll have a look for those bits tomorrow! Finally got a free dayI feel bad now bitchin about the struggle I've had removing the tank to fit the new pump that's been on the shelf since just before Xmas.
So I won't....View attachment 333391
I didn't notice sparkles but didn't have a torch to shine directly on it.The 'wear parts' are friction material - that's what turns the oil dark, if there's metal 'sparkles' in the oil, then that is not recoverable wear, parts (bushes etc.) need replacing, an oil & filter change alone at that point will only deplete your bank account.
I don't see how it can verify a key press then tell me it can't verify the keyHow do you turn the ignition on to program a key when no key is valid too turn the ignition on?
Think I've figured that bit out, and confirmed the relevant module is faulty but I'm not sure if it's the one in the roof or the one in the tailgate by the wiper..How do you turn the ignition on to program a key when no key is valid too turn the ignition on?
