Have you tried putting it in the dishwasher on a high temp program?

Yes, no luck there.

Hydrochloric acid if there are no metal fittings. Gloves and mask needed. Or just leave it be.

Strangely there's a metal post just under the cap which I wonder if it is related to the coolant level sensor on the Bimmer? Also, the large low down exit for the hose nearest the brake modulator has a metal insert.


The dirt scratches off but acid doesn't work, salt doesn't work. I should have some NaOH (alkali) somewhere. Maybe I will try that.

A friend has been having a clearout and I have a few bits for a good home. All brand new.

3 wheel nuts (Britpart) from an L322 but will probably fit a RRS.

A set of glow plugs. I think these are for the TD6 fitted to the L322. No brand but still in the packet. They're very long and thin.

Free to a good home but you'll have to pick them up or pay for postage.

I'll put them in the For Sale section now ...

I've had a breakthrough. I was fiddling in the garage trying to clean it when I thought: this bl**dy stuff is like varnish ... hold on, actetone!

So acetone was the key to getting it off. You pretty much need to soak it and then wipe off but it does seem to shift it.

It looks like there's a crack in that outlet pipe. Maybe it has been fixed in the past? Don't know but it makes me slightly nervous to fit it. On the other hand it might be a good test of the low coolant warning system once fitted.
 
Acetone often makes some plastics go brittle, not easy to see until the plastic cracks up.

Yes, that's why I used the one off the scrapper. If it fails, well, never mind.

It wasn't in contact long and wiped off straight after so fingers crossed.
