On my 2001 the earth strap from the bonnet is a wide flat braided plastic covered. Runs across the top of the expansion bottle and brake fluid reservoir then down to the engine somewhere near head (cant see properly) non standard engine so may be different place on the thor.

On the 96 spare car its a thin cable and disappears so don't know where the other end is.

No idea why the bonnet needs an earth, unless its some sort of anti static thing ;)

We have an earth strap on the XJ bonnet that looks very green, there are no other electrical components attached the the bonnet so why would it be required? What effect would the strap have anyway?

Please can you expand, does it need to be there as a precaution and as such needs replacing to ensure good ground or is there known static that builds in the engine bay?

Yes, it does need to be there although there may be an earth path through the hinges. Air moving over the surface of the bonnet can, in some conditions, lead to a build up of static electricity. You can be sure that the bean counters would not allow it to be fitted if it was not needed.

Yeah mines a flat cables thanks for that, I did read that it might help with stopping interference for the radio fm but who knows admittedly my radio does seem to truffle to get anything other than radio 2 and classic so maybe that is the reason.

Well if it was the Barb fitting I couldn’t say because on fitting back with some ptfe it sheared luckily managed to extract the threads looks like it was a copper barb so I don’t think it would have been able to tighten up brilliantly anyway, gonna seal up then pop down the hose place and see if they have something that will fit, hopefully with a bigger barba at this one is no more than 15mm long with not a big lip so I don’t honk there was much for the hose clamp to release seat on without possibly catching the lip aswell.

No it comes from rubbing rubber balloons on your jumper so you can stick it to the wall ;).

As @Datatek said static can be generated from moving air over a surface. Hence why earthing choppers before refueling was drummed into my early other life:)

Looks like it’s mainly coming in from the screw that sits just above the pollen filters for the bottom part of the plenum plastic and clogged up with the debris of the old air filter

You know that explains when I get out of most cars I tend to put my hand on the roof as I lift myself out and get an electric shock.

I’m unlikely to be able to get close enough to attach where it’s supposed to go but would attaching it to battery negative be enough? As that is easily do able.
 
What's the trick to getting the start button out of the dash? It looks so simple on YouTube :( get something behind and it flicks out.. apparently!!
Is there a technique other than brute force? Feels like something will break

It’s a Range Rover you could try and get it to come out on its own with promises of treats and it would still break.

I’d personally try a squirt of silicone spray around it hopefully helps it slide out a touch nicer.
 
Not the neatest of cuts but it’s much thicker than the original stuff not that there was anything left beside what was clogging up the drain, should be pretty good though the fish tank stuff. At the very least should do for a while till I get some alli mesh for it.

The problem is that being for a fish tank it's unlikely to be UV stable so will deteriorate in the sun.
 
All done and sealed up and back together, since I still had the hose out from clearing the drains I thought I would give the car a spray down and a decent concentration on the plenum area to test and all appears to be dry with no dripping.

Left the pollen filters out for now to just see easier if some does come instead of them soaking it up, need new ones anyway as they are filthy and I accidentally snapped the plastic on of them. Will grab some new ones in the week.

Not gonna get down the hose place today so will have to try and pick up a new Barb and clamp tomorrow and then hopefully get the lpg to stop leaking and then it will with any luck be vroom vroom time on the lpg.

If you look at each end of the plastic scuttle cover you fitted the foam to, there are grilles that the foam doesn't cover. The gaps were big enough for mice to get in and build a nest on one of mine. I added mesh to those openings too.

Yeah I spotted them but had no way of attaching the bit of foam to them at the minute, I definitely plan on covering them with mesh though when I get some. Touch wood I’ve never had any mice round by me and had no issues with them being at the cars yet but never say never.


Don’t think I’m able to get the remaining water out of the sponge with the dehumidifier it’s pretty much just wet directly under the pedals and can’t get the carpet to bend enough to to air it, I reckon that suggestion of nappies might work for that though as should be able to squeeze some under with a bit of difficulty but should hopefully mop some up fairly quickly.
