Not really no.
My dad bought her about 12 years ago for £400, ran it for a year with the mot she still had on her, and then he got £360 back, probably the least loss he's ever had on a vehicle.
It was an utterly gutless 2.5 that had had no maintenance previously, and was a total heap before we got it. If it was a v8 varient she wouldn't of gone that way, but there you go. Properly hateful vehicle, I've no idea why the diesels have such a following to be quite honest, they were cack from the get go, and that's coming from me, a huge green oval fan and a defender driver!!
No you're quite right, it was silly of me to say that when my entire p38 diesel driving experience was on that craper! I do love the v8's though... that burble and torqueThat wasn't running right then. Properly running diesel is sprightly enough but it doesn't drive like the v8

I bought my 2000 DHSE with full Landy main dealer service history and was BITTERLY disappointed with it's towing performance. In a previous thread I said I spent over £2000 with Jeremy J Fearn to seriously "up" the performance. Fuel economy was then unacceptable, so I bought my first AUDI 8 Quattro Sport, that I had remapped by ProDrive and got virtually twice as far on fuel whilst towing. To give that context, my 2000 4.6 LPG tows exceptionally, but again, is an exceptionally thirsty bastid !That wasn't running right then. Don't get me wrong Mark, I loved the DHSE, but I was doing upwards of 80,000 miles annually when living in Cornwall. Mines tuned and returns around 30mpg on the motorway ay 70 fully loaded. It's around the 168bhp mark. It's a good balance for me i think.

Fine if the car is a toy. Gas guzzling unreliable heap of crap otherwise. The BMW diesel is not the best engine in th world, but with good maintenance it will go for 250K miles no problem. No chance of that on the ancient V8.3.5 v8 which I'm slowly working on for the series is preferable to both! V8 low grunt and growl with non of the above issues.
However I'd rather take my chances on a v8 than live with a doosil in a p38. The v8 is kinda one of the main reasons to own any rangie imo.

I cashed-in my life insurance policy and got V8 Performance to top-hat and fully rebuild my 4.6 Thor. They put a different cam in to give better mid-range torque too. Yup! Followed my heart, not my head. Regretted the decision a good few times, but regret evaporates at the turn of the key...assuming it starts of course! Hahaha!Fantastic! And may I add, an inspiration! you only live once, we may as well enjoy the short time we have here!!
