They are a very crude device, just a bobbin wound with a lot of fine wire with a soft iron core so probably a defective solder joint.
Good luck getting a refund/replacement.
Cheers, yes saw the internals when i took the old one out.
At least it's only £20

Am I right in assuming it's for the grub screw on the con rod? 3.5 mm but I've never had to remove that, changing the piston seal can be done without removing it.
Yeah that’s the one everything I seen said to remove to remove the piston. But gone to drive it today and eas fault coming up lucky me.

Been a week since I started using the car again and I still have the smell of rubber from the new heater hoses. I am guessing that is one reason why Land Rover used ally pipes, that and getting them through the bulkhead.

That reminds me, in order to hold the new rubber pipes steady where they go through the bulkhead I snapped off the old plastic holder (accidentally to be honest but serendipitous) made two 8mm holes top and bottom and then made holes in the same place on the rubber grommet for the pipes. I then made up a plate from an offcut of 3/4" oak floorboard with two 32mm holes which is just big enough for the protruding part of the grommet to slot into. So my rubber pipes go through the plastic holder, through the grommet which is in its place in the bulkhead and then the wooden plate clamps through with two 8mm bolts to hold the whole assembly rock solid and prevent any movement where it passed through the bulkhead. I cut the old ally pipe ends off to join the old pipes to the new.

@brianp38dse - I have enough 19mm hose left to do yours when the time comes. :)

I have a complete kit with hoses and joiners and clamps ready for the day that i am brave enough to pull the dash out

i had a spin in a 2001 4.0l p38 the other day my son was looking at buying it, i think i will stick with a tweeked dozzel even in sport mode it felt slower than mine, shame he didnt go for it as it had cream nappa leather lots of wood, air bags done brakes, front hubs headlinning all sorted and a nanocom but he decided no he would save his money:(

You still have it??

but he decided no he would save his money:(
You taught him well. Get him to try a manual 4.0 or 2.5.
is all the difference being able to select how much oomph you want. Mine will toddle along at 30mph in 5th sipping away hardly uses anything but 3rd is something to behold with foot planted even by modern standards. Don’t be fooled by the 134bhp tag

He was looking at selling his 13 plate bemmer estate and clearing the finance then use the p38 as a cheep motor for a while then get something more expensive, and i may have ended up with a 4.0 v8 but the maths didnt quite work out for him, shame as i would have got a few spares as well as a nanocom, i just seamed so slow compared with mine with the tunning box and r380 box:D

Depends on Valvetrain wear, my 4.6 was slow, all made sense when the original cam was removed, with the torquemax cam she flies. ;)
