A common issue Kermie on most cars sadly. Usually manifested by heavy handed operation of the stalk instead of gentle operation which then leads to the sticking on or coming off effect. Sometimes a clean up of the points with an ear bud and some good electrical contact spray can fix it as a lot of dust does tend to get in there over time which can clog the contacts. If that fails then its either live with it or replace the stalk and IMHOP its always best to fit a new item as a used item can be just as bad if not worse.
its the mechanical part, not the electrical. eg, indicate right, start to turn the wheel right and the indicator cancels back to the middle position. if I try to stop it cancelling with my finger, you can feel something jamb/catch up inside

Yep, that's a load of electronics all right. I reckon it is that bit, right there.

I have been in La Paz, MexicoN for the past 5 months in order to sell my sailboat which did happen. My brother has been diving my 99 P38 occasionally whenever it raine and he didn't want to get his Merc wet. I come back and find the front of the P38 at Access heIght while the rear is at Standard. Tried a spare valve block but that was worse. Put original back in and pump would not run. Hawkeye Total says thermal switch is hot so I jump the orange lead to ground and it runs. Drove around for a while running the suspension up and down. Seemed to work OK so left car in Off-road overnight with self leveling relay removed. Result is the passengers front is way down and other 3 corners a bit down. So much for my holiday
Straight through MoT test with no advisories. I'll take that.
