Is the zf6 the same as the BMW X3 auto, zf6hp26/x? There are two sump versions aren't there? Integrated filter and separate filter models, for the oil on the BMW version, they use the life guard 6. Any help?;)

I think the x designates that it’s used on the BMW X3 x5, could be wrong.
I think your right, the original filter looks like it’s one piece but an aftermarket sump with easy to remove filter is available, that’s what I’ve found out so far. I’ve also read that the engine has to be raised to get at the gearbox sump, I’m hoping that’s the sport and not the full fat rangie

My friend supplied me with the oil to do his sump dump, I could tell you what it is tomorrow.

Bemble recommends the real MaCoy ZF stuff, but like almost anything you can purchase the same spec for a considerable saving.

Just wondered if you’d done your friends sump dump?

Oh yes, all done, must be close to a month now.

Broke out me £5 squid point n squirt laser thermometer anorl ;)

4.5 litres, you need strong hands.

Ah ok sorry my misunderstanding, do you know which oil you used? Did you have easy access to the sump without having to do anything silly like raising the engine?

Nothing silly whatsoever, real easy.
All you need is a thermometer and 12mm hex??? (memory not good on that)

The drain is the 'small' plug on the metal pan, no idea what the humungous one does?

Basically

1. ....engine off
2. Drain box. Refit drain plug!!!
3.Fill new oil (about 4 litres) in through the level plug, which is just above the pan side on the alloy box......... drivers side. One oil overflows stop and fit level plug temporarily.
4. Start engine and run for a bit, using laser thermometer on the box sump or casing wait until you reach 40-45 deg C.
5.With engine running, remove level plug and continue filling until it drips out, that is the fill point.
6. Refit level plug loosely, jump in vehicle and go through tall he gears from PRND, maybe pausing for 3 secs between them.
7. Re-check level, it's correct when temp is correct, engine running and it lightly pours from level plug.

Don't worry about taking a long time to squeeze the last of the oil in, the box won't get hotter than you need.

Drive it.

(Sorry, i'll post back with oil data.)

Awesome thanks for the input, that sounds pretty much the same as the td6,
Did you use a genuine filter? Just wondering where to order mine from, presumably I’ll need a gasket and i rings as well?

Didn't do the filter, he had that done when he bought it first.
Next dump we may change it again.

Oil is RAVENOL ATF, 6HP
No idea on cost, he supplied it.

I had a hoist, but it's still pretty easy on the ground if that's your intention.

Next time round I will warm the new oil in a bucket of very hot water, it should be easier.

Yes I remember pumping the oil was fun, I bought a garden sprayer and adapted it to use on the td6, I’m sure that’s still kicking around somewhere in the garage , I’m tempted by doing the same, a couple of oil changes then a new filter, although it would be nice to see if the magnets have got much swarf on them, I guess I’ll find out if the oil comes out like glitter

I’m just looking at the oil, how much do you think you use per sump dump? I’m contemplating buying a 20 litre drum but I did that with the td6 and 12 litres still in the shed lol

Ok that’s useful to know, I’ll look at the costs and see how it adds up, I reckon 3 sump dumps is the way to go but not sure. I’ll give it some thought

I’ve found a 20 litre drum for £140 so that looks like the way to go,
Although if the first sump dump doesn’t help then I might keep the diesel and sell the supercharged lol

Yeah I’m still amazed myself, I’ve actually been looking at what year/mileage SC I’d get if I sold both, I’d only be looking at a same year car with half the mileage, doesn’t seem worth selling it considering the SC drives better than my td6 with a little over half the miles,

The Sc has less work to do imo, and has far more credibility that a TD6.

If we are not swayed by price per mile (or the availability of RED) then there really is only ONE
true contender to majestic aural pleasure.

Yeah I love everything about it except the thirst lol , but considering I don’t use a tank a month in the td6 I figure to keep the SC will only cost me an extra £60-£80 a month in fuel, the noise makes up for that alone, but obviously the mileage has to be a consideration as well

I can tell that you you want to sell it to me for a 100% profit,

I would not be averse to that.....:D:D:D;);)

I have a spraygun, a welder, and a press.....for all those worn bushes:eek:

Lol well it owes me the huge sum of £700 now with work done for mot plus a service including plugs that weren’t really needed so I’d be happy to sell it to you for .......... ah actually that supercharger scream comes at a heavy heavy price, I just don’t think I could sell it. It’s. just to damn addictive, I might have to give up alcohol to be able to run it but by god it’s worth it, of course the cost will turn me to drink so not sure how that’s going to work. Ah Is that a catch 22??
