Thread resurrection ...

So the motor endplate didn't work, broke again and moved, so fecked the new motor up! Left in shed for a while but went to have a look at it yesterday ...

The brush plate is nylon/plastic, so it's non-conducting and had melted, coating the armature, and building up 'blobs' that effectively stopped the armature from turning, which again appears to have dragged more current, which means more heat which meant more ****e and burnt plastic. So, as I used to have a motor lathe (from when I raced 1/10th electric model cars) I applied the same principles and cleaned the plate, cleaned the brushes and re-grooved them, cleaned the armature, cleaned all the magnets and shell, put it all back together and it now works, and works better than when i got it 'cos I also lubed the bearings!!!

I is happy ..

I is even happier 'cos Juliet said well why not just buy a new motor endplate for the winch? So I did .. £66 delivered from USA via Amazon .. so not bad. Delivery expected between 5th and 15th July .. When I first enquired about same endplate and delivery I was quoted from £140 upwards ...

So the winch will ride again, perhaps!

Happy days .. ;)

Good result there Paul. :)

If i had a disco, i would do the discreet mount approach as well i think.

Been thinking about it and yes, it does seem easy enough. Someone's sorting me a 'real' one as well anyway, but it's gotta be a good thing to make my own too .. I like making my own. ;)
