If you get the spanner on and give it a good whack on the end with a hammer it should come undone without having to hold it,when you put it back do the same, they're sort of self tightening while rotating should be safe

No such luck spent an hour trying to get it to budge am gonna try and knock something up that will hold it tight while I try and undo it.

Put a long arm 15mm spanner on the belt tensioner's bolt and push it against the belt while hitting the fan wrench

before I got the spanner for the job the fitter in my work hit it a crack with a hammer and chisel and it just spun off worth a go if your stuck

I was skeptical about spending 25 quid or so on spanners at first, but once you see how big and thick they are you see why.
Well worth it if you ask me, had that fan off a good 10 times probably :p

its better not to use a chisel but a long flat headed punch and hit the center of each flat, once ytouve hit each flat a time or two it comes off without damage to the nut

I can vouch for this - it was the only thing that worked for me first time viscous fan came off. Bit of copper grease on the thread and one smart tap on fan spanner has been enough since
