Hi Folks
has anyone any hints on getting the fan & viscous coupling off my disco...have got the right spanner etc but it doesn't want to budge any ideas???

if the driving belt goes under fan pully rh thread over lh thread, use big hammer to knock spanner it needs shocking off not pulling,if that fails hit flat off nut with long punch it stretches nut makes it loose

To loosen the fan spin the spanner in the direction the fan spins when the engine is on.

For me I got a long screw driver and stuck it between the nuts on the fan pulley so i could stop it from turning while i used the spanner.

Dont forget you have to undo it clockwise the opposite to normal nuts as its a left hand thread.

it certainly does...but have now got it re-fitted along with a new water pump & rad so hopefully will have sorted the overheating problem...time will telll

I was going to ad don't bother refitting it as it dont do a lot - mines been off for the last 4yrs, engine temp never goes above halfway even at motorway speeds or low speed towing.
you miight gain a couple of mpg an all.

Doesn't seem to be the case ,mine has been off for ~2 years now and will not get any higher than a third on the gauge, seems if the cooling system is in good shape, particularly rad,it is not really needed-mine is in the boot just in case.Even an abrupt stop after motorway driving, the gauge just drops back down a bit

fan also draws plenty of cool air through your intercooler which is quite nice.

And keeps the engine bay cooler.

I tried taking my fan off last winter, apart from the very slight drop in noise, there was no apparent difference in mpg or performance. What I did find different was that I was constantly on edge and looking at the temp gauge all the time.

Of course, thats just my 2p:D
