Hi all,

New on here, hoping for some advice if possible.

I'm getting a TD4 freelander 2004 model in a few days but have heard of problems with viscous couplings. How can you tell the unit is about to crap out! Any signs to look for and if it does give up the ghost, is it a tricky job to replace it and at what cost?

Had a Landy years ago and after much moaning to the missus about getting another one she relented, so a freelander it is. It looks like ownership is a costly affair if all the probs I have heard about are true. Don't mind things I can fix but they are a bit more technical than what I was used to before.

Any suggestions, advice, info, or comments appreciated.

I bought a 2005 td4 about a month ago and when I mentioned in the dealership all the "famous" freelander problems I'd been hearing about he told me to expect the vcu to go at about 120k km and that it would cost about 600 euros to replace.

You made a good choice going for the td4, You'll luv it mate.Theres no comparison to the owld tractors .
I had the same concernes befor i bought mine but once you start finding your way around it, there no different to any other modern motor, with reguards to the elecktricery bits

So just enjoy it:D

Alright lads,

Thanks for the info and support. I checked out the link to Ashcroft Transmissions, had a look at a VC, so I'm not so paranoid about ownership now. I'll keep you posted when I get the TD4.

Cheers
