Hi all. I noticed recently that the tyres on my 90 occasionally touch the radius arms when on full lock. Mainly due to a bit of gentle off roaring I think. I can't make them do it while on the road. And if I turn the steering wheel lock to lock there is a couple of inches clearance. But there is defiantly a scuff mark where they have touched the radius arms at both sides. Should I be worried about this?

From memory there should be 20mm clearance between tyre and arm at full lock, if you have a couple of inches like you say then it is set up roughly ok. I would guess that the reason it is touching when off road is due to tyre flexing.
 
Thanks fellas. Will check it tomorrow. I think you are right. When off road I think the tyres flex a bit hence the rub marks.

depends on tyre size ,but nothing to worry about ,your not going to put it in full lock at any great speed, the worse that will happen is greater wear on inner edges
 
make sure that its not possible for it to happen on the road before an MOT test, the tester will check lock to lock and if they touch its a fail
 
Mine does it just catches radius arms, you get used to the amount of lock required before it catches

I actually want to make mine catch as then you have every mm of lock you can , I will then re-adjust for the MOT as its the mot man who checks and steers it to full lock
 
Some triallers exploit this by making their tyres touch on full lock. If the inner wheel locks up on a turn, then the whole vehicle pivots around it, thus giving a very tight turning circle. Especially usefull on very tight down or up hill turns .. :)

Takes some experience of doing it to 'feel' it and use it properly, but it is a good technique when done right.

No good for anyone going faster than crawl speed mind ...
