The one that went cheap was out of an 8 series or 740! M series V12 power!

Nugget!!! 740s were V8 M62 if i remember correctly 4.4, i had one it was ACE!!!!!!!! it was the 750 and 850 that had the V12s effectively 2 straight sixes bolted together in a V, lovely sound but i still preferred my V8 it sounded just simply , more manly :D

Well it was the V12 from the 8 series and fat 7 series so whichever number :p all it was missing was the ecu
There's a vid on YouTube of a guy who's crammed one into a disco mk1 and it shifts

Yep, E39 M5 engines are pretty dear alright. They go for anywhere from 2-4K over here for full engine, box, loom and ECU set.

400bhp out of the box for 4K isn't that bad for you money in comparsion to most other engines though. I know a couple of people with E39 M5s with superchargers then too so 6-700bhp. They're just insanely fast!

The 3.0D engine is a brilliant engine. I'm putting one into my E30 Touring at the moment. A Defender with one would be lovely too and it would probably be what I'd do for mine if it hadn't a TD5 originally.

8th lead put on and it runs smooth as a nut. ... For 2 seconds then dies away  the more sensors I add the better it will be though :) coughs when you press the loud pedal too and doesn't really rev up, fuel issue ? There's not a lot in the tank which may be the problem.

Finish water and get it running well are priority a for tomorrow :)

Check the water temp sensor for resistance... if its open circuit its fuked

I must admit, my factory fit v8 does also cough a bit when there's not a lot in the tank... I've learn to carry a jerry in the back ;)

I'm interested in how you plan on 'waterproofing' (best you can of course) your v8? I imagine there can be some rather.... Wet ? Sections when trialling?

It won't rev up at all though really which is the problem I'll sort it though at least it runs :)

There's not really wet sections so I'm not worried about it for trialling but winch challenges there will be, I've got a couple of things I can do but mega squirt will happen soon ish so that will solve the waterproofing issue :p

Right when it starts it runs perfect and then after 2 seconds just slows down and dies. If you push the throttle down it couches and dies but if you keep blipping the throttle it will rev up, revs up abit rough but it does rev up fuel issue or something else ? It will start in drive so the position sensor isn't wired in properly yet, could this be the issue ? How should it be wired to make it work ?

I've put 20 liters of fuel in with some redex so draw isn't the problem

inhibitor just needs the 2 wires joining only effects stater anyhow , have you put high pressure pump in system (34psi)does rail have pressure

Right ok. Where does it measure engine speed ?

Yes it's a high pressure pump I haven't checked rail pressure yet but that thought did pass through my mind

if it's starting well and dying would check ecu is getting signal from coil -ve.
re inhibitor, won't cause issues. wire through exciter for starter.

I've got a wire running to the -ve but I'll check the resistance as it's meant to have a set value

there's a big thing screwed in with wires coming out of it on the drivers side (near the firewall rather then the front)

Ok I've solved it :D

Put
My hand over the air inlet which created abit of resistance and it revs up perfectly, must just need to suck properly to make everything work :p

I'll pipe up the air properly and check but it runs beautifully if I do this :D

Happy days. :)
