Didn't see this thread for a while so sorry for going back a few pages. If I was going for big power, it would be a BMW V8.

Can get adapter plates for bolting the M60b40s to BMW M50 ZF gearboxes so with that in mind, a Rangerover 2.5tds gearbox would fit very easily.

Granted a standard R380 would probably **** itself in five minutes but at least many of the parts would still be reasonably off the shelf to a point.

Of course, using an BMW V8 opens the possibilities for an E39 M5 engine too. 400-440bhp and 500Nm is a silly amount of power :D

1uzfe is a very nice engine too though and if course is quite light.

Trouble with these engine is always going to be oil starvation if used in an offroader of course so a dry sump may be needed.

A BMW or Lexus lump would be the dream, so much more refinement and power it's just sourcing them and the cost that's abit more of a problem. RV8 bits are common as muck :p

Actually reckon bmw V8s would be cheaper over here than a Rover V8 lump!

Who knows, I might stick one into my trayback if I get sick of the 300.
I'd love to build a soft-top 90 for the road with an M5 V8... Dreams keep your imagination healthy I suppose :p

Someone's gotta have a go :p

I'm definately sticking something special in the range rover but I'm still in decided what that special engine is :D

The other week saw a lads 90 with a BMW 3.0D he'd just dropped in.

It was still in early tune but :jaw: that thing was gonna be ruthless!

BMW V12 lump went for £250 last night or night before, was near me but decided against it

Not got the space to stockpile engines!

Nice one! you drove it yet?

I agree, a Toyota lump would b awesome! plenty of lexus v8's about for not much, just cost of getting all in ect more than anything.

Haha no running rough still and no props on it yet :p

I'd just buy a whole scrapper for the transplant to make it easier and scrap the rest :)

POWER !!!

8th lead put on and it runs smooth as a nut. ... For 2 seconds then dies away  the more sensors I add the better it will be though :) coughs when you press the loud pedal too and doesn't really rev up, fuel issue ? There's not a lot in the tank which may be the problem.

Finish water and get it running well are priority a for tomorrow :)

I must admit, my factory fit v8 does also cough a bit when there's not a lot in the tank... I've learn to carry a jerry in the back ;)

I'm interested in how you plan on 'waterproofing' (best you can of course) your v8? I imagine there can be some rather.... Wet ? Sections when trialling?
